Pachamama

Yesterday I attended a workshop offered by "Pachamama," an organization devoted to the preservation of the earth and to the cause of social justice. It is a large, international group whose work is recognized worldwide. "Pachamama" is a native term for "Great Mother," or earth herself. The workshop was on the theme of "Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream," referring to the "Cultural Trance" our world is at present caught up in that allows the continuing devastation of our planet without recognition of the fact that we are in danger of destroying the only home we have.

This poem by Alice Walker (that I discovered today) seemed very relevant. And, of course, the energies of Kundalini are also the energies of earth and all it contains.

We Have A Beautiful Mother

We have a beautiful
Mother
Her hills
Are buffaloes
Her buffaloes
Hills.
We have a beautiful
Mother
Her oceans
Are wombs
Her wombs
Oceans.
We have a beautiful
Mother
Her teeth
The white stones
At the edge
Of the water
The summer
Grasses
Her plentiful
Hair.
We have a beautiful
Mother
Her green lap
Immense
Her brown embrace
Eternal
Her blue body
Everything we know.

Alice Walker
