Larry Robinson––Falling (poem)
Falling
In these awe-filled days of fire and flood
We watch and wait and wonder
When that fierce hand
Might reach at last for us.
Those of us not yet touched by calamity
Quake, knowing in our bones
That though we may be spared
This time, time will level us all.
No magic amulets, no prayers,
Good deeds or good looks
Can promise protection
From our terminal condition.
And those who have watched a child
Swept forever from our arms
Or fled the flames that swallowed
Our hopes and our memories
Or hid from the bombs
Or the predator’s gaze
Know that nothing now will ever be the same -
As is anything ever were.
For all of us are falling
Like ashes, like rain,
Like petals or leaves;
But we all are falling together.
And if we knew, in truth,
There was nowhere to land,
Tell me: could we know the difference
Between falling and flying?

"Ever Changing"––poem by Dorothy
Ever Changing
I think we will be ever changing.
The wind in the boughs
does not stay still
though the roots are fixed.
The rushing stream,
the clouds overhead,
are in constant motion,
ever new arrangements
of themselves.
Our cells, our marrow,
our visible features,
all are shifting
even as we sleep.
Do not keep on wearing
yesterday's garb.
You are always a new being,
forged minute by minute
by the master craftsman.
Welcome every fresh creation,
each emerging image
of who you are.
And at the end,
allow the final transformation
to take you with ease
to your next arriving self.

Maintaining Balance in a Time of Troubles
Maintaining Balance in a Time of Troubles
No question about it, we are living in extremely perilous times, facing countless threats of many kinds that I will not list here in detail, since we all are very aware of what they are (environmental, political, financial, corruption and incompetence at the highest levels, needless war and conflict, and the list goes on.)
Some people have fallen into despair, and grieve constantly for what is happening as our external world seems to be falling apart.
Others resort to extreme anger and fulminate and seethe over the incredible challenges that are confronting us.
I think neither of these responses, if carried to the extreme, is going to get us through. Too much grieving leads to inaction. Too much anger unbalances us and we forget about the light that exists along with the shadow. We put ourselves in danger of becoming the mirror images of that which we oppose.
I think we should rather take refuge in the kind of balance that great leaders have always manifested. I think of Buddha, the exemplar of calm in the midst of disaster (and the world seems always to be besieged with disasters of various kinds); Gandhi, whose passive resistance won out in the end; and Rumi, whose family had fled before the invading forces and whose loss of Shams was irreparable, who yet composed some of the most transcendent and powerful poetry ever conceived.
We must in the midst of chaos nourish our souls in whatever way possible. We must, above all, do what I call "consider our friends as life jackets." We must go forth into the healing realms of nature to replenish our spirits. We must turn to art, our own and others, to maintain our connection with beauty and to remind us of the beauty of life itself. We must turn to action, when called for, but we must not forget that we are creatures of divine grace, that the Beloved Within is always there and will confirm her presence through love, which will, if properly expressed, even bring waves of ineffable bliss into our own bodies.
(Are we becoming angels, the divine human? Who knows? It may be happening, even now, as we go through this fire of transfiguration.)
We are not just creatures of the moment. We are spirits of eternity, beings on our way to become vessels of light, divine embodiments of the Great Love Force that created us and binds our world together.
Let us not forget who we are.
Namaste and blessings to all,
Dorothy Walters

Rumi––Alone with the Beloved
There is a loneliness more precious than life. There is a freedom more precious than the world. Infinitely more precious than life and the world, is that moment when one is alone with Beloved. ~Rumi —
Friday night in Louisville?
Question:
I wrote down that there was to be a meeting in Louisville (CO) Alfalfa's Friday evening (tomorrow) from 6:30-9 at which people would be invited to share their own transformative experiences. Now I can find no trace of this announcement and wonder if anyone knows anything about this. If so please e-mail me at

Thanks.

Elegy for My Beloved Departeds
Elegy for my Beloved Departeds
Midnight and I am searching
among my forgotten ghosts
for a trace of what was,
these phantoms
that strode through
and shaped my life,
still held close
by me.
Who were they?
Where have they gone?
Are they now nothing
but air,
bits of dust
that cling to you
as you pass by?
What dreams did we
manufacture together,
what splendors,
what pain,
merely a deceptive drama
played out
on a make-believe stage?
Where did these moments go,
these rivulets of time,
these illusions of being?
Always there are
no answers,
only the echoing murmurs
of the wind
in the branches,
the stirring of the curtains
as it passes through.

Mirabai Starr––'In Praise of Longing" (from her blog)
Mirabai Starr
In Praise of Longing: Reclaiming Spiritual Passion
November 18, 2015 (blog entry)
At night on my bed I longed
for my only love.
I sought him, but did not find him.
I must rise and go about the city,
the narrow streets and squares, till I find
my only love.
I sought him everywhere
but I could not find him.
(From The Song of Songs)
Love-longing is one of the casualties of the Post-Modern Age. We seem to have come to some kind of corporate decision that relegates spiritual passion to the psychological trash basket of romantic delusion. It’s the same thing we say when two people fall in love: “She is infatuated with an idea,” we declare, “not a real person.” (We learned this in Psych 101, and it explains a lot about our own history of romantic disasters.) Or: “She is a blank screen onto which he projects his own hopes and dreams of love. It has nothing to do with her.”
The conclusion of this line of reasoning is that one day the lovers will wake up, the scales will drop from their eyes, and they will see each other truly. That, we assert, is when the real work of relationship begins. And that’s when many lovers bail and bolt, only to run the same delusional story on someone else.
Maybe. Or perhaps falling in love is more like what Leonard Cohen said in an interview I read in Interview Magazine while pumping my quads on the Stair-Stepper at the gym years ago. It’s not falling in love that’s the illusion (I’m paraphrasing here); it’s falling out of love. When that intoxicating feeling of awe and connectedness washes over us and penetrates our consciousness, that’s when the shroud lifts and we see that person for who she truly is: a being of exquisite beauty and pure goodness. When we fall out of love, the veil drops once again over our eyes, and we stop seeing our beloved as the holy creature he is.
I believe the same principal is operating with spiritual longing. Many of us start on a spiritual path at a young age, crazed with desire for God. We fast and pray, meditate till we can’t stand up, read and re-read the Gospel of Thomas and the Tao Te Ching, chant kirtan and sing hymns and memorize Rumi poems — all in hopes of catching a glimpse of the Numinous, which has become the object of everything we have ever wanted. And then some well-meaning elder, who has been cultivating wisdom for way longer than we have and has graduated from such sophomoric inclinations, suggests that perhaps what we think is spiritual desire is actually just a case of raging hormones directed at the idea of God, and that we need to let go of attachment and get grounded.
“Don’t worry,” they reassure us. “It’s a perfectly natural developmental phase. You’ll grow out of it.”
Maybe we’re not supposed to grow out of it. What if the Bride in the Song of Songs represents the very highest state of the human spirit, and when she rushes from her bed (where she has been smoldering in agony all through the night) and onto the streets and plazas in search of the One who has set the blaze, she is forging a direct path to mystical union. A path of fire.
This longing you express
is the return message.
The grief you cry out from
draws you toward union.
Your pure sadness that wants help
is the secret cup.
(Rumi, from Love Dogs)
It is true that religion has its limitations, some of which can be harmful (divisive dogma, antiquated rituals, abuses of authority), but the longing of the soul for union with the Divine transcends formal religious boundaries and leaves belief systems in the dust. At the core of every one of the world’s major spiritual traditions lies a heart that burns with yearning for a Presence that cannot be defined by membership in any particular mythic system and cannot be explained by the most precise theology. Longing for God is a trans-religious phenomenon, and so lends itself beautifully to the inter-spiritual quest.
What do I mean by inter-spiritual? I mean an experience of the presence of the sacred anywhere and everywhere we can find it. I mean an Episcopal priest singing the Kol Nidre with her Jewish neighbor and finding the gates of heaven blown open by the ancient Hebrew liturgy and the light of Christ come streaming through. And then the following week there sits the Jew in a pew on an ordinary Sunday morning and when she is invited up to receive communion she overrides her instinctual panic and stands to receive the body and blood of one of the greatest prophets her people has ever known, and then she returns to kneel at the altar rail, her eyes streaming, the taste of love alive on her tongue. I mean an agnostic chanting zikr in a circle of Sufis — Allah Hu — and watching in awe as every preconception he has ever harbored about Muslims being perilous wackos falls away and his spirit soars in remembrance of the One, who is the embodiment of Mercy and Compassion. By inter-spiritual I mean the cultivation of radical humility, and a spiritual thirst so powerful it drives us into the arms of the Beloved wherever we think she may be hiding, even in unfamiliar holy houses. It means being vulnerable enough to be transformed by our encounter with the other.
It means saying yes to love.
O Lord, you Supreme Trickster! What subtle artfulness you use to do your work in this slave of yours. You hide yourself from me and afflict me with your love. You deliver such a delicious death that my soul would never dream of trying to avoid it.
(Teresa of Avila, from The Book of My Life)
Longing is a key that opens the door to the garden where the Beloved is waiting, and has been waiting all along. Stop trying to grow up and grow out of it. Instead, descend. Sink the roots of your love deep into the Ground of Being. This is incarnational spirituality. It is not about ascending some kind of spirit ladder up and away from this messy world into a pure land of equanimity. It’s about fully inhabiting this place, and picking up the tools that come with the package: these glorious, riotous, ravaged hearts that want to praise and burn, these fecund, holy souls that long to see and be seen, these complex minds whose highest task may well be to unlearn everything they think they know, and rest in the mystery of love.
P.S. I visited Mirabai's class today at the new Matthew Fox Institute of Creation Spirituality. She is one of my most admired spiritual teachers. This photo was taken at the class. (from Dorothy)

The Divided Self
The Divided Self
I have tried so long
to go beyond
this body.
I have chanted,
done movements,
let rapture come in.
Often I think
I have finally
become the Other,
the one I have longed for,
felt enter my physical container,
transcended as light.
Yet my body keeps on
reminding me
that it is still there,
needs attention,
crying to be loved.
When I look in the mirror
I see it remains,
neglected creature needing to lose
a bit of its roundness
here and there,
acquiring new lines and markings
over the years.
It tells me it is lonely,
has problems
that need to be fixed.
I have now become two beings,
each claiming ownership
of a single residence,
sharing the premises
of an unnamed reality.

J. S. Jackson––Book of Solace and Madness
Mystical Poetry by J.S. Jackson
"Taking the abilities J.S. Jackson has carefully crafted as a lyricist in Enation, this book of Mystical Poetry explores deep, emotional, and personal themes." (blurb)
Excerpt from 'Book of Solace and Madness':
"I came from the womb of a shining poet, and
the loins of a musical physician. I was brought
up on visions of grace, and songs of mercy.
Argument was fed to me for bread, and
thought, for milk and honey. Preciousness, was
hummed over my bed of waking dreams. And
awareness was planted, in the soil of my heart.
Beneath fabled skies, conviction caressed my
senses in mystical awe, like the softness of a
mother’s hand. Lion’s eyes were fixed into my
scull, and the teeth of wolves were placed into
my gums. I was given an eagle for a brother
and a mare for a sister. Both guided me,
through tunnels and streams of joy and bliss,
bearing the burden of transient creatures. I
missed you most, during the night. Lying on
peddles of violet fascination, tears of Eden
would swell to overflowing—as we rehearsed
our coming death, through the discipline of
sleep.
O Author of Beauty, you would visit me, with
visions from within, of beating drums and
tolling bells. And visions from without, of
living effigies, wrapped in cloaks of flesh,
plucking nylon strings, of blood and laughter.
Death, stands before me every hour,
glimmering life into reflection. I welcome its
shadow. For I need this wound, to separate the
day from the night."
'Book of Solace and Madness'––J.S. Jackson
(This excerpt is a fascinating example of the "romantic" vision, of the excess of feeling found in such early writers as Thomas Wolfe (of "Look Homeward Angel" fame), of Keats and Shelley, and Thoreau at Walden and even certain passages of Melville in "Moby Dick." It is the sublimely personal, a work which lays bare the depth of feeling of the author in a way that has largely gone out of fashion among contemporary poets, who often maintain a careful distance between their perspective and the subject. Today's fashion favors the "objective" over the "subjective" point of view, as if what we feel must be excluded to give way to what we think. I love such poetic language, with its elegant metaphors and arresting images. It is as if the Muse has unleashed the wild imagination to explore what is often repressed and unsaid. Many feel that such abandoned imaginings are closely tied to the Kundalini Within.)

Our Current Crises––from Ted (tennis coach)
Our Current Crises
Every day the light coming into the planet increases. Can you feel it? This light is creating massive changes in the world. Often this looks like it's in the form of disaters. Unnatural natural disasters continue to appear. This cause tremendous disruption in peoples’ lives yet also leads to an outpouring of compassion that brings people together on a human level. The light is also exposing the corruption and moral shortcoming of many so-called leaders.
It may be tempting to see this as the beginning of the end of society as we know it. Thankfully, this is the case. It is the end of the age of darkness, exploitation, corruption, and fear. In its place the light is bringing in a new era of joy, love and oneness. However, the light alone won’t make it happen. It will require many souls taking that light into his or her heart, amplifying it into a powerful stream of love, and sharing it as widely as possible. This is the true catalyst that will bring forth the wonderful new world in a rapid and relatively smooth way. If that amplification isn’t there then the light will continue to cause disruptions for a long time until the consciousness of enough people finally elevates enough to create an energy of leadership capable of manifesting a world of peace and prosperity for all.
Love and Light,

Mystical Perception at Sunset––poem by Dorothy
Mystical Perception at Sunset
The call it nondual awareness.
I call it mystical seeing.
These forms and colors
thrusting themselves up
from earth,
infinite variety of shapes and tones,
saying, "Here I am,
do you know me,
we are one and the same,
bound together like sun
sisters, creatures
of the moon at midnight,
pause and you will feel me
arriving in your body,
elements of sky
and water,
beings of light
and joy.

Jacopone da Todi––"Love Beyond All Telling" (poem)
This early poet expresses beautifully the journey of the soul to union, just as we experience it today. Truly he is timeless.
Love beyond all telling (from Self-Annihilation and Charity Lead the Soul...)
By Jacopone da Todi (Jacopone Benedetti)
(1230 - 1306)
English version by Serge and Elizabeth Hughes
Love beyond all telling,
Goodness beyond imagining,
Light of infinite intensity
Glows in my heart.
I once thought that reason
Had led me to You,
And that through feeling
I sensed Your presence,
Caught a glimpse of You in similitudes,
Knew You in Your perfection.
I know now that I was wrong,
That that truth was flawed.
Light beyond metaphor,
Why did You deign to come into this darkness?
Your light does not illumine those who think they see You
And believe they sound Your depths.
Night, I know now, is day,
Virtue no more to be found.
He who witnesses Your splendor
Can never describe it.
On achieving their desired end
Human powers cease to function,
And the soul sees that what it thought was right
Was wrong. A new exchange occurs
At that point where all light disappears;
A new and unsought state is needed:
The soul has what it did not love,
And is stripped of all it possessed, no matter how dear.
In God the spiritual faculties
Come to their desired end,
Lose all sense of self and self-consciousness,
And are swept into infinity.
The soul, made new again,
Marveling to find itself
In that immensity, drowns.
How this comes about it does not know.
-- from Jacopone da Todi: Lauds (Classics of Western Spirituality), Translated by Serge and Elizabeth Hughes

"Blessing"––poem by Dorothy
Blessing
(for Patricia)
May the light of your soul
lead you ever forward
into new vistas,
novel experiences,
as you travel deeper
into the heart
of the mystic rose.
May it unfold
within your own chest
as you move always
toward the center
of mystery.
May the Invisible One
who guides you
show you ever
the way to go,
as you travel forward
on the journey
that never ends,
for knowledge of divinity is
the blessing
of those willing
to open to the delight
of union with the Beloved,
the Unseen Within.
May Beauty and Peace
be yours with each step you take
to become who you are
and have always been.

The Mythical Saint Speaks––poem by Dorothy
The Mythical Saint Speaks
Frankly, at this point
I am not sure
whether I existed
or not.
I was someone who lived alone,
prayed a lot,
made friends with the birds
and the other animals.
Once at midnight an angel came
into my room,
filled everything with light.
I was no stranger
to rapture.
After I died
the stories began to be passed around,
miracles in places I had
never heard of,
healings of people
I never knew.
They wrote about me
in books,
put up statues and paintings
in holy places
where people knelt
in awe.
I miss the trees
and the birds.
They were with me then
and even now
I sometimes hear them singing nearby
when I sleep.

Mary Oliver––"I Worried"
Mary Oliver––I Worried
I worried a lot. Will the garden grow, will the rivers
flow in the right direction, will the earth turn
as it was taught, and if not how shall
I correct it?
Was I right, was I wrong, will I be forgiven,
can I do better?
Will I ever be able to sing, even the sparrows
can do it and I am, well,
hopeless.
Is my eyesight fading or am I just imagining it,
am I going to get rheumatism,
lockjaw, dementia?
Finally I saw that worrying had come to nothing.
And gave it up. And took my old body
and went out into the morning,
and sang.”

Ted Murray––The Time of Transformation
The Time of Transformation
How can you best respond to the news of all of the calamities that seem to be coming almost every day? What is the best way to truly show compassion for those affected? How is the best way to direct your anger towards those who are intent on harming others and the system that seems to allow it? So much of what we hear on the news today is meant to increase the level of fear, anger and division among the population. The idea that your life could be ended suddenly and for no apparent reason strikes fear into the hearts of most people. Seeing the temporary nature of life that can be ended or drastically changed by a natural disaster can create fear in general and even anger at God for allowing these seemingly terrible things to happen.
Looking at these events from a higher perspective is perhaps the best way to avoid moving into the mode of fear. What is the universal game in play and how are all of these seemingly negative events helping to lead us to our next phase of evolution as a planet and species? Instead of fear, why not become curious as to how this amazing drama is unfolding in perfect timing. What is your role to play in it? How can you bring the light of love into the darkness that is so overwhelming to most people? How can you help others stay out of a constant state of fear?
Your eternal being is here to experience this time of transformation and do what you are here to do to help the transition be as loving as possible. If you can help people directly by sharing love with those you know who are affected that is wonderful. Look for ways you can have an impact in the 3D immediate situation. However, also be aware that raising your vibration and bringing a higher level of consciousness to the world is the ultimate goal. How can you use these situations to raise the level of conversation so you can truly help people raise their consciousness and avoid the constant anxiety that the world is feeling? Instead of avoiding or being afraid of the dark, simply bring your light into it shining brightly to help others see more clearly.

Some Fascinating Sites on the Internet
Some Fascinating Sites on the Internet
Found a fascinating article today through a youtube friend on how we (and other entities) constantly emit light, at Educateinspirechange.com (itself quite amazing).
Love what I was led to through this reference to light in the body, now verified by science. The author points out that highly evolved beings (such as Buddha, Jesus, and various saints as well as angels) are often depicted with light around their bodies. Sometimes we can see this light around others as auras. The author feels that this is how we communicate with one another (without words), as our own field of light protons speak with theirs. One reader said, "Finally." Of course, many of us feel we are in fact turning into light bodies,'and this discovery seems to offer proof. And of course I feel that Kundalini is our awakening to the literal presence of our light within.
Than I happened on some youtube sites on the signs of Kundalini awakening by Victor Otto and I feel he is the real deal. He does not look or talk like a spiritual teacher, but he is.
I also read (again) about the "Vimanas" of ancient Indian, which are felt to be the flying machines of the gods. Many resembled the UFO's of our time (some were saucer like
, some were cigar shaped, just like ours). There are even pictures and instructions for making them. Further proof of visitors from other planets thousands of years ago, called gods by the early inhabitants of earth.
I also learned that scientists have discovered traces of water channels from certain sources of water leading to the pyramids of Egypt. It seems likely that the massive blocks of stone used to make the pyramids were transported on these channels.
I also listened to Lynne McTaggart who spoke on the astonishing results of small groups holding hands and meditating together. She said that the participants could immediately be brought into the same brain frequencies that yogis and others must practice for years to attain. You can hear the replay of this interview by Jonathan Goldman at www.healthy life.net Also her recent book "Power of Eight" describes the effectiveness of small groups meditating with intention.
Such mind boggling information on the internet never ends. I get captivated by it all and feel it is highly educational to keep up with the new ideas.
Somehow, it all seems to be coming together.

The New Human––Dorothy
The New Human
Dorothy Walters
I posted this a few months ago, but I feel it is work considering once more.
What will the world be like if universal Kundalini awakening occurs?
How will people know who they are if no longer put into pigeon holes of child bearers or child begetters?
How will people relate sexually? More as energetic attractors? Will the energies "flow through" one another?
There is a scene in "Cocoon" (l985) where the alien female transmits intense sexual energy across the swimming pool, I think this scene is prophetic. The "hero" stands in the water along a shallow side of the pool and the female visitor from another planet stands directly across from him in the water on the other side. He is extremely attracted to her and would like to couple. At that point she "zaps" him with a wave of energy and he wilts, commenting "If this is foreplay, I'm a dead man."
Here are some possible aspects of who we may be if universal Kundalini awakening occurs:
We will all be more sensitive to every stimulus...
We will feel energies of earth, of flowers––smell odors of flowers more distinctly, know music as rapture, body as constantly fluctuating energetic field of feeling'
We will be "post human" the new human––the divine human that many have predicted.
Will we now be more like angels?
_______________________
Random Thoughts:
Many of those who write about the shift into a new consciousness, speak as if the change were primarily mental––a new perspective, a different way of seeing things. Such an intellectual change is indeed essential, but they are ignoring a more fundamental aspect--the transformation of the body and its many layers into the new paradigm of the future human.
What if the change involved the body in the most radical way? What if the "body" now had totally new capacities––to feel, to experience, to know through the sensate system the entire world and its contents in a novel and totally different mode?
What if lovers (and all would be lovers of each other) discovered and entered one another in the fashion (I believe) that the angels do--as clouds of feeling fusing with and then dispersing as they pass through one another? Gender issues as such would be irrelevant, for there would be no assigned "genders"––all would be beyond male/female and exist as pure being, the way "ultimate essence" (god, angels) is/are now. What if another's pain were felt within as if one's own? What if compassion were a mark of one's own deeply experienced identification with the wounded one's own pain? Would this not do a great deal to annihilate war, murder, mayhem of all sorts?
What if group souls of those with like identities were formed, in which each participated the ideas and feelings of the others (though still retaining a personal identity)?
Is not Kundalini itself––with its charged feelings, its resonance with all about including not only the physical setting but the emanations from the persons it is dealing with––a move in this direction? Anyone who has thrilled from a passage in music, the view from a mountain top, or a lover's touch understands this way of knowing. It involves perception, but is not limited to mental thought processes. It offers a way of participating the universe unlike what is produced by mathematical formulae or artificial "intelligence." Robots are not people. They may act on command, but they do not feel.
And feeling itself, incorporated into and reinforcing mental processes, is the basis of the new evolutionary stage.
Are we even now entering this critical stage of transition? Aren't even the New Age seekers, the followers of sometimes specious gurus, the still "green" would be wisdom writers who are yet not ready to speak––part of an already happening process?
Are we building toward a "tipping point," where the new being will emerge fully clad in its glory?
Those among us who already participate the new paradigm in as yet minor ways, those who open to the bliss of groups vibrating to the same frequency in harmony, those who have tasted rapture as music, as movement, as joy of the word--they are the wayshowers, the pilgrims who offer their bodies in all its aspects and levels, to the shift that is taking place, whether on or off this planet. They are willing to climb onto the altar as sacrifice, for they yield their familiar identities and personae to be shredded in the service of the emergent being, the "divine human."

"The Ancient Saint Reflects"––poem by Dorothy
The Ancient Saint Reflects
I have repented and prayed
through the dark night.
I have offered comfort and coins
to those who suffer,
are hungry and are not fed.
I have given all that I
once owned
to others,
that they might live.
Yet even now
I hear the sobs
of those who are ravaged
by incessant war,
predators of many kinds,
those who cannot contain
the violence within,
What can I do
to abate these ills?
What can I give
to bring peace
to the hearts of all?
I must be quiet
and listen,
bring love to the world
wherever I can,
know that the Invisible One
is there, beside me always.

Marek Peter Kaziniec on the Full Moon
Marek Peter Kaziniec
The Full Moon
And so we are, once again, in full moon; that metaphor for the middle of life where, like the moon having reached its fullness begins the mystic journey of fading into three days of darkness- Christ’s tomb of death and resurrection- before being reborn a new, so we too having reached our mid-life crisis begin to look less and less outside of ourselves for meaning and begin journey on ‘the road in search of a land with no name, and I never look back for I am walking through sunshine and rain…someone out there is calling my name...' inward journey of depth into that mystic and mythological dimension of the Goddess, the magic and mystery of visions and dreams of the eternal light, and like the moon experience death to what we were told we were, mere lump of flesh, and spiritual rebirth to what we really are, eternal Spirit, and ‘…I am a man who has lived in the tombs and has broken the chains…I’ve been blind, but now I see…it is time to leave the shadows behind…turn the page and love again…’

Dalai Lama––"Compasstion"
Compassion is what makes our lives meaningful. It is the source of all lasting happiness and joy. And it is the foundation of a good heart, the heart of one who acts out of a desire to help others. Through kindness, through affection, through honesty, through truth and justice toward all others we ensure our own benefit. This is not a matter for complicated theorizing. It is a matter of common sense. There is no denying that consideration of others is worthwhile.
There is no denying that our happiness is inextricably bound up with the happiness of others. There is no denying that if society suffers we ourselves suffer. Nor is there any denying that the more our hearts and minds are afflicted with ill-will, the more miserable we become. Thus we can reject everything else: religion, ideology, all received wisdom. But we cannot escape the necessity of love and compassion.

Stillness
Stillness
(inspired by Pablo Neruda's poem "Keeping Quiet.")
Indeed, perhaps stillness
is the answer.
Now we are all
trying to speak at once,
and amidst the babble,
the small still voice within
is hard to hear.
What messages might emerge
if we would just listen.
What truths might manifest.
And even a cheerful
"hello"
or "have a nice day"
would sometimes be welcome.
Not to mention
"I love you"
and "I care."

(Note: the above photo is of the tree I see from my balcony window. I have watched it grow through the seasons of sun and snow. I was unable to photograph it in its entirety until I recently purchased an iPhone with greater capacity and was very gratified that I could finally capture it in its full majesty.)

Pablo Neruda––"Keeping Quiet"
Keeping Quiet
Pablo Neruda
Now we will count to twelve
and we will all keep still.
For once on the face of the earth,
let's not speak in any language;
let's stop for one second,
and not move our arms so much.
It would be an exotic moment
without rush, without engines;
we would all be together
in a sudden strangeness.
Fisherman in the cold sea
would not harm whales
and the man gathering salt
would look at his hurt hands.
Those who prepare green wars,
wars with gas, wars with fire,
victories with no survivors,
would put on clean clothes
and walk about with their brothers
in the shade, doing nothing.
What I want should not be confused
with total inactivity.
Life is what it is about;
I want no truck with death.
If we were not so single-minded
about keeping our lives moving,
and for once could do nothing,
perhaps a huge silence
might interrupt this sadness
of never understanding ourselves
and of threatening ourselves with death.
Perhaps the earth can teach us
as when everything seems dead
and later proves to be alive.
Now I'll count up to twelve
and you keep quiet and I will go.

Kundalini on Youtube
In 1981 when there was not internet, personal computers did not exist, and I knew only one person who had even heard of Kundalini, I experienced deep spontaneous Kundalini awakening. I did discover a few books, including Gopi Krishna, Arthur Avalon's translations of "The Serpent Power," Lee Sanella's writings on Kundalini. I had no other source of information, for in fact, Kundalini itself was virtually unknown in this country. Yoga itself was considered an esoteric practice, meditation was known to a very few, and various practices now commonplace were nowhere to be found.
Out of curiosity I recently looked to see how much information on Kundalini is now available on Youtube and here is what I discovered. I have not seen most of these so do not vouch for their authenticity or usefulness.
And this is only Youtube. Thousands of books and writings are now available on the internet and Kundalini has become a buzz word.
Test each presentation for authenticity and truthfulness. Never believe anything just because someone says it. Be especially wary of those who promise "the swift way to awakening." If you are not ready, Kundalini can show its dark side with disastrous results.
But feel free to explore and find those teachings that bring light to this complex subject.

Rumi, Pema Chodron, RACHEL NAOMI REMEN
Be a lamp, or a lifeboat, or a ladder.
Help someone's soul heal.
Walk out of your house like a shepherd.
—Rumi
That nothing is static or fixed, that all is fleeting and impermanent, is the first mark of existence. It is the ordinary state of affairs. Everything is in process. Everything - every tree, every blade of grass, all the animals, insects, human beings, buildings, the animate and the inanimate - is always changing, moment to moment.
~ Pema Chodron
Perhaps the secret of living well is not in having all the answers but in pursuing unanswerable questions in good company.
