What Better Path (poem)
What Better Path
So what if we don't know everything.
So what if the gods did not invite us
to their council or their revelry.
If we were relegated to the outer circles,
where we occasionally caught the scent
of heavenly aroma wafting near,
or heard only the distant strains
of celestial tones.
Better to forge ahead in unknowing,
without transcript or direction,
maps forgotten or lost,
guides glimpsed barely
or from time to time,
ragged images floating ahead,
words whispered
in unknown languages,
brief encounters with
exaltation,
ecstasy flooding
the cells,
what better choice
than this,
what better path
to uncover as we go.
