Life after Death, Coma, Visits from the Dead

Recently, I watched a fascinating DVD called called "Experiencing the Soul: Before Birth, During Life, After Death" by Eliot Jay Rosen. Later I wrote the following account to a friend:

The DVD consists of interviews with several people, many of whose stories are familiar, others not. I was especially impressed with Joan Borysenko's account of her mother's death--she was present and saw the room fill with light, as did her twenty-year-old son who was with her.

And then there was Jean Houston's story of a dream in which her father appeared (he had died quite recently). He was a comic by trade--when she asked what to call him he said, "Call me popsickle." She thought that was odd, but later she found out the he was to be buried in Forest Lawn, but they were backed up, and were keeping him on ice temporarily.

There was also the woman who had been in a coma for several years, who suddenly awakened and began to talk shortly before her death. She announced she had been there and seen it and was no longer afraid to go on. Her daughter told her she had been in a coma for years, and only now was talking. The mother answered, "Oh, you'd be surprised to know the places I've been."

I think this fits in with the theory of Elmer and Alyce Green that folks in the later stages of Alzeimer's go back and forth between the realms (earthly and heavenly) and have adventures of various kinds. One woman reported that while she was on "the other side" she helped those on earth.

I got this DVD on Netflix, which has a surprising number of similar selections. Also several on Buddhism, Yoga masters, and the like.

I had a new reaction to "Unmasking" recently. A friend (via e-mail) gave it to an older family friend of hers to read, and this woman (a very conventional person) was quite upset by it. She thought I was having hallucinations brought on by some strange drug. I think we forget how "unusual" our experiences may seem to some of the more traditional types. Events outside their "comfort zone" can be quite threatening. Often they will describe these in terms they are familiar with--as mental collapse, hallucination, drug experience, whatever. These are the folks who want to feel "safe." They choose to remain within the accepted societal norms and live totally within the "culture trance," which does not acknowledge or accept happenings which challenge its premises. That way they feel safe, and are assured of secure boundaries and fixed explanations for what goes on in the familiar world. Often these people are quite surprised when they themselves have some atypical encounter which opens them to new awareness, and shows them that their "knowledge" is limited, for, as one philosopher (I think it was Whitehead) observed, reality is greater than we imagine, indeed, it is greater than we can imagine.

Let's face it. Kundalini like certain other human phenomena is threatening to some. It challenges their assumptions about what is possible in human experience. I think this is why so many "spiritual explorers" have, through the ages, kept silent about their various inner adventures, for they knew that punishment (rejection, isolation, condemnation, even incarceration or death) could be the price paid for public revelation. Thus those who are willing to put their experiences up for public view can expect a variety of responses, from the supportive to the judgmental. In one sense, to "go public" with one's private journey is in fact to offer the self as a sacrifice for the greater good.

We are living in the time of the opening of the portals between the realms of the earthly and the divine. Things which were heretofore veiled are now being revealed to "those who have eyes to see." Experiences which were once rare or hidden are springing to light on all sides as the Mysteries are exposed. Some cling to the old paradigms. Others discover the new knowledge and embrace it gladly. However, all of us must tread with caution, using discrimination to distinguish between the authentic and the phony. Otherwise we will indeed be swept into delusion, some form of "false reality."

Perennial Wisdom For The Soul's Journey

Greetings and Namaste!

Across the millennia this time of year, marked by growing darkness and the return of Light in the northern hemisphere, has been celebrated by our familiar religious traditions as well as ancient shamanic and other spiritual traditions. It's a time for giving special attention to the emergence, the revelation of the Divine, in whatever form you are drawn to, be it the birth of Christ, the miracle of God's protective presence seen in lamps remaining lit, the Buddha's enlightenment, the solar return, and the list goes on and on.

It's also a time to make a concerted effort to embody the Divine - just as the Divine revealed Itself through these physical manifestations - we do so through generosity, compassion, patience and loving kindness. We participate in the revelation of the Divine by setting aside our small self and surrendering to the Divine Presence within, allowing It to radiate through our thoughts, actions and being. All religions are united on this level and when we recognize our unity we can celebrate together in peace.

Rumi

One Song

What is praised is One,
so the praise is One, too,
many jugs being emptied
into one huge basin.

All religions,
all this singing,
is one song.

The differences are just
illusion and vanity.

The sun's light looks a little different
on this wall than it does on that wall,
and a lot different on this other one,
but it's still one light.

We have borrowed these clothes,
these time and place personalities,
from a Light, and when we praise,
we're pouring them back in.

Eric and Naggie--multiple sites for poetry and pictures

Today, I (Dorothy) received the following note from Eric Ashford, whose work I have frequently posted on this site. Eric is quite prolific, and maintains several poetry blog sites:

this is to notify you that I (Eric) have created a new blog.
Called - A Lighter Kind of Dust.

At- http://stardustpoetry.blogspot.com/

other of Eric's recent blog sites are-

http://starlightandmoonglow.blogspot.com/

http://goddessthemes.blogspot.com/

http://tonguesandechoes.blogspot.com/

http://rockriverwords.blogspot.com/

http://darkblooms.blogspot.com/

http://hiddenwords123.blogspot.com/

And N. M. Rai also has several sites of poetry and original photographs.
She says:

I have three galleries called "The Life of Flowers" - same bouquet at
http://www.pbase.com/nmrai/flowermacros

Her blogsite is:

Spirit Feedings: poems by n.m.rai

Sacred and ecstatic songs not bound by any one tradition as all contemplative poems are fingers pointing to the same moon.

I especially admire both Eric's and Naggie's ability to combine poems with beautiful images. The visual component adds a great deal to the effect.

Podcasts, Poetry, Kundalini

http://mysticbabylon.podomatic.com (#24, November 20, 2006)

This afternoon, I had a new experience. I participated in a "poetry podcast" consisting of three poets whose work was recorded for listening on the internet at the above site. John Rhodes, the sponsor, read first. His poetry is laced with Biblical references, though he is not a "religious" poet in any conventional sense. The second reader (Monique) writes in a very different vein. She is active in a women's poetry collective known as Tara's Tongue and writes what I would describe as slightly "in your face" poetry, somewhat like that of the hippies whose work was full of fire and social protest. I was the third reader. Each of us read for about 12 minutes.

Initially, I felt that my poetry would be very much in contrast to that of the others, in view of my deep spiritual bent. Yet, after we finished, John described an unusual mystical experience which had occurred to him when he was still a child. And Monique stated that she was quite familiar with kundalini, having spent several years in India with Muktananda at his ashram. She added that she was especially fond of the poems I had read about Mirabai, one of her favorites.

I was surprised and pleased at both responses. Oftentimes, when one reads mystical poetry, the listener is at sea to place it in context. And, as most of us know, when you speak of kundalini, all too often the hearer looks confused and then asks the almost unanswerable question, "What is kundalini?"

I was delighted to discover this unexpected connection with both poets, neither of whom I had known before.

I had intended to read more poems which followed "Marrow of Flame," but somehow the time got away from me.

I applaud John Rhodes in his efforts to bring spoken poetry into the mainstream. As I commented on the podcast, poetry is meant to be read aloud and heard, not simply confined to the printed page.

Gifts for the Eyes

Patricia Lay-Dorsey, who gave me (set up)this site some years back, has now embarked on a new career as an "art photographer." (Actually, perhaps "soul photographer" might be a better description. She has an uncanny knack for discovering the very essence of her subjects, both human and otherwise.) She has taken literally hundreds of thousands of digital photographs in the past, but now she has bought new equipment and advanced to another level. Her work is, to my mind, quite mesmerizing in its ability to combine technical skill with true feeling for the subject. To view her work, go to:

http://www.pbase.com/windchimewalker/

And, my friend "Naggie," who goes by N. M. Rai, been posting wonderful images on her internet gallery site for quite some time. Her work displays a most tender sensibility, able to capture the nuances of the beauty which surrounds her. Here is her site:

http://www.pbase.com/nmrai/newbouquet

One view holds that the source of creative talent is in fact kundalini energy itself. If this be so, then both of these friends are abundantly endowed with it.

Thanks to you both for giving us such a feast for the eyes.

Thanksgiving Messages from Animals

Recently, I visited Stephanie Marohn's Animal Shelter an hour north of San Francisco. (See her link on the sidebar) Stephanie lives on a hilltop along with her four sheep, one miniature horse, a donkey and two cats.

Stephanie gathers the wool from her sheep and has them woven into comforters. She asked me to feel some of them to see if I could pick up any vibrations and messages from the sheep who grew the wool. So, although I had a bit of performance anxiety, I held my hand above each of the comforters, and from each got a definite surge of sweet loving energy as well as a brief message.

Later, I couldn't quite remember what I had said, so I asked Stephanie to write it up for me: (Queenmere, now departed, was the mother of Chloe. And I actually played a bit with a little remnant of Charlotte's pure wool, running it around my face and neck.)

Hi Dorothy
You said, "Oh, oh," when you felt the comforter because you got a surge of energy. "Love, love, love," from Queenmere, and commented that hers was the strongest energy. You said you could feel Queenmere all the way down to your toes. Queenmere also said thank you. You said she wanted me to know she was right there (since she had died in March and was on the other side). That all three--Queenmere, Chloe, and Charlotte--were such sweet loving energy. Charlotte was a wave of love. As was Chloe, who also said "Tee hee," pure joy.

So, today I express gratitude for the presence of animals in our lives. My wish is that their loving, caring energies will spread across our world, and remind us of our own connection to source, pure love.

Giving the Mind Its Due

Usually, I write poems about the heart and its connection with spirit. Sometimes, however, another kind of poem "pops out," something clearly more from the mind. Here is one I wrote recently. Writing like this helps me keep the balance between heart and head.

The poem was inspired by Milton's Paradise Lost, one of the great artistic masterpieces of Western culture, albeit Milton himself was an extreme patriarch. A blind poet, he dictated his verses to his daughters who obediently wrote them down.

Belial was one of the rebellious angels who fell from heaven as one of Satan's legions. Majestic Raphael was a six-winged seraph, one of God's most faithful servants. His "descent" occurred when God sent him to confront Adam and Even after their grievous "sin."

That Heav’nly Fragrance

It wasn’t enough
that the eyes were taken.

The world itself
now arose
as a billow of fog,
a place where
nothing found definition
but remained ever a haze
of uncertainty,
vague outlines,
undecipherable forms.

So he invented a universe
within,
a world of precise habitation
and history,
a narrative enacted
on a cosmic stage,
himself author, director,
lead and support
all in one.

There he could select
outcomes and consequences,
control both past and future
happenings,
become the god he railed against
as Belial
flown with insolence and wine,
or Raphael,
splendid Seraph winged,
who in radiant descent
through the vast Ethereal Skie
Sailes between worlds and worlds…
and when he shook his Plumes,
that Heav’nly fragrance filld
the circuit wide.

The India Within

Thumbing through an old book on the Tantric Tradition, I came across this bit of poetry from an ancient text:

When the mind goes to rest, the bonds of the body are destroyed,
And when the one flavor of the Innate pours forth,
There is neither outcast nor Brahmin.

Here is the sacred Yamuna and here the sacred Ganges,
Here are Pranaga and Benares, here are Sun and Moon.
Here I have visited in my wanderings shrines and such places of pilgrimage.
For I have not seen another shrine blissful like my own body.

(Saraha)

The passage is written in code language. The first stanza explains that when the mind is settled and clear, then the essence of self (which is the Self of all creation) comes forward. This experience is the same for all, high and low, outcast and aristocrat.

The speaker (obviously an experienced practitioner of authentic Kundalini yoga) is saying that he has no need to make pilgrimages to shrines or sacred cities and holy rivers. All are found within his own body, which itself becomes the place of pilgrimage, the source of endless bliss.

In code language, Yamuna and Ganges (sacred rivers in India) refer to the left and right nadis (channels) which ascend intertwined around the central spinal axis (the shushumna) to the crown chakra. Pranaga and Benares (now called Varenesi) are sacred cities visited by pilgrims for many centuries.

"Here" refers to the practitioner's own body, which itself contains all the bliss which the pilgrims seek.

For me, this piece is especially meaningful, since recently I have been lamenting that I have not been able to travel to India in this lifetime, nor am I likely to go in future. So I, like the poet/devotee and many others, will have to discover the "India within." Often the treasure one is seeking is not to be found in traveling here and there, to this or that temple or place of worship. It is, rather, enshrined within, hidden in one's own heart.

Out of the Mouths of Babes

The following article appeared on Patricia Lay-Dorsey's blog(www.windchimewalker.blogspot.com) It is a talk originally given in Kenya in 2002 at the U. N. Summit on Climate Change. It is a moving reminder of the need for all of us to heed the world's problems and t0 find rapid solutions to the challenges now facing our globe.

Are these the "New Children"?

Appeal from a 13 year old
By Grace Lee Boggs
Michigan Citizen, Nov. 12-18. 2006

Delegates now meeting in Kenya at a UN Summit on Climate Change should revisit this appeal at the 2002 Earth Summit in Brazil:

"I'm Severn Suzuki speaking for the Environmental Children's organization. We're a group of twelve-and thirteen-year-olds from Canada. We raised all the money ourselves to come 6000 miles to tell you adults you must change your ways. I'm here to speak on behalf of the starving children around the world and for the countless animals dying across this planet.

I'm afraid to go out in the sun now because of the holes in the ozone. I'm afraid to breathe the air because I don't know what chemicals are in it. I used to go fishing in Vancouver with my dad until a few years ago we found the fish full of cancers.

In my life, I have dreamt of seeing the great herds of wild animals, jungles and rainforests full of birds and butterflies, but now I wonder if they will even exist for my children to see.

I'm only a child and I don't have all the solutions, but I want you to realize, neither do you!

You don't know how to fix the holes in our ozone layer.
You don't know how to bring salmon back up a dead stream.
You don't know how to bring back an animal now extinct.
And you can't bring back forests that once grew where there is now desert.

If you don't know how to fix it, please stop breaking it!

You may be delegates of your governments, business people, organizers, reporters or politicians - but really you are mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, and all of you are somebody's child.

I'm only a child. Yet I know we are all part of a family, five billion strong, in fact, 30 million species strong and we all share the same air, water and soil. Borders and governments will never change that. I'm only a child. Yet I know we're all in this together and should act as one single world towards one single goal. In my anger I'm not blind, and in my fear I'm not afraid to tell the world how I feel.

In my country we make so much waste, we buy and throw away, and yet northern countries will not share with the needy. Even when we have more than enough, we are afraid to lose some of our wealth, afraid to share.

In Canada, we live the privileged life, with plenty of food, water and shelter. We have watches, bicycles, computers and TV sets. Two days ago here in Brazil we were shocked when we spent some time with children living on the streets. One child told us: 'I wish I was rich. If I were, I would give all the street children food, clothes, medicine, shelter and love and affection.'

If a child on the street who has nothing is willing to share, why are we who have everything still so greedy? I can't stop thinking that these children are my age, that it makes a tremendous difference where you are born, that I could be one of those children living in the favellas of Rio. I could be a child starving in Somalia, a victim of war in the Middle East or a beggar in India.

I'm only a child yet I know if all the money spent on war was spent on ending poverty and finding environmental answers, what a wonderful place this earth would be!

You teach us to behave in the world. Not to fight with others, to work things out, to respect others, to clean up our mess, not to hurt other creatures, to share, to not be greedy

Then why do you go out and do the things you tell us not to do?

Parents should be able to comfort their children by saying 'Everything's going to be alright.' 'We're doing the best we can' and 'It's not the end of the world.' But I don't think you can say that to us any more. My father always says 'You are what you do, not what you say.' Well, what you do makes me cry at night. You grownups say you love us. Please make your actions reflect your words."
Patricia also reprinted this recent article from the Washington Post:

US Is Top Purveyor on Weapons Sales List

By Bryan Bender
The Boston Globe
Monday 13 November 2006

Washington - The United States last year provided nearly half of the weapons sold to militaries in the developing world, as major arms sales to the most unstable regions - many already engaged in conflict - grew to the highest level in eight years, new US government figures show.

According to the annual assessment, the United States supplied $8.1 billion worth of weapons to developing countries in 2005 - 45.8 percent of the total and far more than second-ranked Russia with 15 percent and Britain with a little more than 13 percent.

Arms control specialists said the figures underscore how the largely unchecked arms trade to the developing world has become a major staple of the American weapons industry, even though introducing many of the weapons risks fueling conflicts rather than aiding long-term US interests.

The report was compiled by the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service.

"We are at a point in history where many of these sales are not essential for the self-defense of these countries and the arms being sold continue to fuel conflicts and tensions in unstable areas," said Daryl G. Kimball , executive director of the nonpartisan Arms Control Association in Washington. "It doesn't make much sense over the long term."

Taken together, these articles point out that our spiritual revolution (which I believe in) is occurring in the midst of worldwide failure to grasp the implications of our current policies. The children perceive the danger. The adults must also listen and change. Many have. The need is great for the rest of us to open our eyes also.

Tobias on the Need for Documentation

The material channeled from "Tobias" continues to be quite interesting. This site, which just began a few years ago,now attracts thousands of readers daily. And small groups affiliated with the "Crimson Circle" now exist all over the globe. I am always impressed by how quickly the "spiritual development" movement is spreading. For me, the phenomenon is especially impressive, since when I began my journey (some twenty-five years ago), virtually no one (in my acquaintance, anyway) had heard of such things as Kundalini, channeling, etc. The movement was just beginning, with the Seth materials, Carlos Castenada, and a few others attracting some followers. In my early journals I predicted that the movement would start slowly at first, then pick up speed rapidly as more and more of us tuned in to the New Consciousness. Tobias says that some 14,000,000 people are now undergoing spiritual awakening worldwide, though I do not know how he arrives at this figure.

I am also interested in the fact that Tobias encourages all of us to keep a record of our journey for the sake of those who will follow us. I intuitively did this and the result was "Unmasking the Rose", a book which many people have found helpful as a guide for their own awakening process. It was difficult to put such personal material up for public view, but now I am glad that I did so. Today others are coming along with their own personal accounts. All are valuable, as sources of information about this growing collective phenomenon.

The Crimson Circle website is:
http://www.crimsoncircle.com

On the site you can both read and hear past channelings.

And here is the location for the particular excerpt below (from one of the early channelings on the topic of ascension):

http://www.crimsoncircle.com/channelseries/ascension/01ascensionqa.html

.

QUESTION: Tobias, why do you ask us to begin documenting our experiences? I have long held that when we need the memories and information, it will be there in total recall. Am I mistaken?

TOBIAS: We ask you to document it, because it is not about you. You are doing this for the benefit of others. How could they all tap into your memories and brains? For you, it would be fine. For the many who need the understandings that you come to, it will be important to document, to write down, to creatively find a way to illustrate what you’re going through. Do you realize that there are a small handful of humans that are going through this process right now? As we said, as of this timing, there are somewhere in the neighborhood of 14 million But do not hold to that number, because it changes quite fast. It is growing rapidly. If there is a small handful of humans who are going through the process, think about all of the others that are coming through soon. Where will they turn to for help? What will be the best way to help facilitate their process? Do you want them going back for their answers to the very churches that you created in old energy? No, this would stifle them. It is not that we are saying that the churches do not provide a wonderful service, but it is – how to say – a step along the way. These are the ones who will need the books to read to assure them that they are not going crazy. If you had had these to read, imagine how much easier your path would have been! They are the ones who will need to go to the classes to understand the difference between going into ascension and going through menopause. (audience laughter) Because many of you are at that age when you are accused of going through menopause, you tend to think that’s what it is. We are here to tell you something different. Oh, indeed you are going through a change. Indeed your chemistry, your body, and your mind are changing. But it is not menopause. We ask you to be the ones to create the classes, to create the tools, to create the communication vehicles in all sorts of ways, to be the ones who are ready to answer the calls. If there are 14 million today, next year at this time there could be 144 million, and it could continue growing from there. As we said, the time is short for the quantum leap. It is not about you. It is about serving those who come after you. We would like to make a point also that you are not bound to any contract here. Your contracts are done. They have long been done. You do not need to do anything. You will not be punished if you do not accept this role. We are here recruiting in love. We are asking you – if you so feel – to step forward. There are difficulties and challenges. One of the potentials that you may select on this day – (and that is why the energy of your spiritual potential exists here; it has never been brought in before, but it comes in) – you may choose at this time to not continue in this process, because it is difficult. You may choose to lead a quiet life, what you would call a "normal" life. We will love you just the same. We will still come to you in your dreams and be beside you. Life will take on a somewhat easier pace, an easier role. We will still love you. But we also encourage all those who are ready to continue moving on that your energies are needed at this time.

Signs of Awakening Divinity

The following was sent to me by a friend this morning. It is one of the best summations of the awakening process which I have encountered. I was particularly impressed by the first two--which described my present state of being precisely. I even dreamed about returning to my childhood home last night.

I also thought the comments on the desire to "go home" to the place of the spirit vs. the need to stay put and complete one's assignment on this planet were particularly relevant.

Twelve Signs of Your Awakening Divinity
By Geoffrey Hoppe and Tobias

1. Body aches and pains, especially in the neck, shoulder and back.
This is the result of intense changes at your DNA level as the "Christ
seed" awakens within. This too shall pass.

2. Feeling of deep inner sadness for no apparent reason. You are
releasing your past (this lifetime and others) and this causes the
feeling of sadness. This is similar to the experience of moving from a
house where you lived in for many, many years into a new house. As
much as you want to move into the new house, there is a sadness of
leaving behind the memories, energy and experiences of the old house.
This too shall pass.

3. Crying for no apparent reason. Similar to #2 above. It's good and
healthy to let the tears flow. It helps to release the old energy
within. This too shall pass.

4. Sudden change in job or career. A very common symptom. As you
change, things around you will change as well. Don't worry about
finding the "perfect" job or career right now. This too shall pass.
You're in
transition, and you may make several job changes before you settle
into one that fits your passion.

5. Withdrawal from family relationships. You are connected to your
biological family via old karma. When you get off the karmic cycle,
the bonds of the old relationships are released. It will appear as
though you are drifting away from your family and friends. This too
shall pass. After a period of time, you may develop a new relationship
with them if it is appropriate. However, the relationship will be
based in the new energy without the karmic attachments.

6. Unusual sleep patterns. It's likely that you'll awaken many nights
between 2:00?4:00 a.m. There's a lot of work going on within you, and
it often causes you to wake up for a "breather." Not to worry. If you
can't go back to sleep, get up and do something rather than lay in bed
and worry about humanly things. This too shall pass.

7. Intense dreams. These might include war and battle dreams, chase
dreams or monster dreams. You are literally releasing the old energy
within, and these energies of the past are often symbolized as wars,
running to escape and boogeyman. This too shall pass.

8. Physical disorientation. At times you'll feel very ungrounded.
You'll be "spatially challenged" with the feeling like you can't put
two feet on the ground or that you're walking between two worlds. As
your consciousness transitions into the new energy, you body sometimes
lags behind. Spend more time in nature to help ground the new energy
within. This too shall pass.

9. Increased "self talk." You'll find yourself talking to your Self
more often. You'll suddenly realize you've been chattering away with
yourself for the past 30 minutes. There is a new level of
communication taking place within your being, and you're experiencing
the tip of the iceberg with the self talk. The conversations will
increase, and they will become more fluid, more coherent and more
insightful. You're not going crazy, you're just Shaumbra moving into
the new energy.

10. Feelings of loneliness, even when in the company of others. You
may feel alone and removed from others. You may feel the desire to
"flee" groups and crowds. As Shaumbra, you are walking a sacred and
lonely path. As much as the feelings of loneliness cause you anxiety,
it is difficult to relate to others at this time. The feelings of
loneliness are also associated with the fact that your Guides have
departed. They have been with you on all of your journeys in all of
your lifetimes. It was time for them to back away so you could fill
your space with your own divinity. This too shall pass. The void
within will be filled with the love and energy of your own Christ
consciousness.

11. Loss of passion. You may feel totally disimpassioned, with little
or no desire to do anything. That's okay, and it's just part of the
process. Take this time to "do no-thing." Don't fight yourself on
this, because this too shall pass. It's similar to rebooting a
computer. You need to shut down for a brief period of time in order to
load the sophisticated new software, or in this case, the new
Christ-seed energy.

12. A deep longing to go Home. This is perhaps the most difficult and
challenging of any of the conditions. You may experience a deep and
overwhelming desire to leave the planet and return to Home. This is
not a "suicidal" feeling. It is not based in anger or frustration. You
don't want to make a big deal of it or cause drama for yourself or
other. There is a quiet part of you that wants to go Home. The root
cause for this is quite simple. You have completed your karmic cycles.
You have completed your contract for this lifetime. You are ready to
begin a new lifetime while still in this physical body. During this
transition process, you have inner remembrances of what it is like to
be on the other side. Are you ready to enlist for another tour of duty
here on Earth? Are you ready to take on the challenges of moving into
the New Energy? Yes, indeed, you could go Home right now. But you've
come this far, and after many, many lifetimes it would be a shame to
leave before the end of the movie. Besides, Spirit needs you here to
help others transition into the new energy. They will need a human
guide, just like you, who has taken the journey from the old energy
into the new. The path you're walking right now provides the
experiences to enable you to become a Teacher of the New Divine Human.
As lonely and dark as your journey can be at times, remember that you
are never alone.

Traveling

I kept on going
through small towns with fancy names
that no one can remember
over the next horizon.
One state of mind merges into
the back roads of another.

People go away and come back
with worn out memories
but you can see
that they have come here
from some other settlement
or city we have heard of
but have not been to
and neither have they.

Campfires still smolder in some eyes.
Faces bear the marks of hard traveling
even though they have never left
the apprehensive parish
their fears were born in.

I have been a strolling bone.
Something an old woman or a crow
might prophecy with-

-not exactly a rune
more a cup of burnt coffee
and some hard baked gristle
you could read
or turn over

but only after you had stumbled along
through your life
long enough to become a signpost
for your heart.

Water

It was raining
before I got up this morning.
The sound of falling water
the laughter of drains;
the chronological dripping
of the timeless sky
all enchant and chill.
Water fills my mind
with a gurgle of presence
as if God were an outlet
for me to splash through
like a running river.

Leaf Prints

The fallen leaves
have left rusty impressions
upon the sidewalk.
Pressed russet prints
on the unyielding concrete
faithfully record
the flight of the season.

I try not to step
on these ghost images.
Believing that if I walk gently
through their painted dreams
Autumn will keep step with my life
and not overtake it.

Family

I am compiling an inventory
of my family tree.
All the knobby crusts and mossy mounds,
the bugs and fungi,
all the seeping slither and sap
related to the panoply of flesh
that fills out
and bursts the buds of being.

Aardvarks, chipmunks
and wildebeest
crowd every familial branch.
There are constrictors and spitball killers.
There are fluffy dandelion seeds
that can never die.
There are hosts of half-eaten moths
and things that go bump in the night
like elephants and dreaming bears.

My family tree cannot be
truncated into just humanity
but must swim and fly
and get by on too many legs
or none.

I ponder sweet St Francis
how each creature joined his congregation
in praise of family differences.
How he showed even the ants
what the outside of heaven looked like
within the one womb
of our fruitful Mother-God.

Ohio Caverns

In the caverns
deep under the wet earth.
Under the sunny wet world
where the sky flew, and changed
the colors of leaves and cheeks,
we shuffled and trooped
into the cavities of the dark.

The guide said not to be
afraid of the little brown bats.
We formed a line
that circumnavigated
a million years
of dripping rock:
mineral columns that
put forth space and silence
like the foliage of time.

Colors set themselves
into striations
and bezels of stillness
the iron bleedings
of a multihued darkness:
pigments only a sunless place
could mix.

The guide asked: Had we ever seen
what the dark looked like?
Then he turned the light off.

Instantly we fell through
our own eyes.
That kind of darkness eats you
more than a bear or a worm
ever could.

It consumes all the parts of you
that you cannot see
and then takes your soul
to where you recall
that your eyes were always

just these caves in the ground
for your own light.

There is a Part of Me that is as False as God

There are no parts of myself
that are not put aside and saved.
What cannot be saved is the star that made
a far starlight.
What cannot be brought back
are the atoms it takes to ignite light.

Here, I am burning brightly
whilst there I am unborn, dark and whole.
Here I blossom, but there where the seed is
there is neither beginning nor end.

The long corridor of time,
it gets wider and wider.
There are parts of myself I have not yet met
even though we share the same speeding mind.
I am as false as any notion of God could be
but then I am that which I ponder.

Ego is a two-legged thing like an angel.
The universe can be measured in clichés
and by the smallness of our visions.
How can we weigh a false thing
when we know so little about fiction?

I look back.
I respect and regard
while mind, body and spirit
charge through the outer rings of the known.

I am a bogus proposition, a remnant
but the only real thing left
after the bang went nova.

There Is a Part of Me that is a Stone

There is a part of my life
that is still traveling infinity
as a fiery stone.
A meteorite of thought
set upon an unimaginable course.

Here I am a river:
I carve my way
and am contoured by my path
but there, I am a bedazzlement of independence.
A liberty, undefined and plotted,
exploding outward from every inward reality.

There is an element of my mind
that is as adamantine as diamond
and that fraction glitters imperviously
within a prism of its own vision.
While there, I am a flash and trail of prophecy
spiraling into God.

I am the timely stone
and that which it reveals
as it is rolled away from disbelief.

I am the space revealed by water
as rock erodes
into the bright impossibility of truth.

On Miracles and Mary Oliver

This lovely poem by Mary Oliver says something very important about how miracles happen. And her comment about how others might not believe this if they hadn't seen it reminds me of how many of us often say of our own lives, particularly as they have been affected by kundalini, that we ourselves wouldn't believe our past experiences if they hadn't happened to us.

In the Storm

Some black ducks
were shrugged up
on the shore.
It was snowing

hard, from the east,
and the sea
was in disorder.
Then some sanderlings,

five inches long
with beaks like wire,
flew in,
snowflakes on their backs,

and settled
in a row
behind the ducks --
whose backs were also

covered with snow --
so close
they were all but touching,
they were all but under

the roof of the duck's tails,
so the wind, pretty much,
blew over them.
They stayed that way, motionless,

for maybe an hour,
then the sanderlings,
each a handful of feathers,
shifted, and were blown away

out over the water
which was still raging.
But, somehow,
they came back

and again the ducks,
like a feathered hedge,
let them
crouch there, and live.

If someone you didn't know
told you this,
as I am telling you this,
would you believe it?

Belief isn't always easy.
But this much I have learned --
if not enough else --
to live with my eyes open.

I know what everyone wants
is a miracle.
This wasn't a miracle.
Unless, of course, kindness --

as now and again
some rare person has suggested --
is a miracle.
As surely it is.

World Sound Healing Conference

As I delve deeper into the use of sound for vibrational healing, I find that the World Sound Healing Conference is being held in San Francisco this year in May. For more information about this event, check the following site:

http://soundhealingcenter.com/WSHC/

Several famous musicians and sound healers (such as Jonathan Goldman and Don Campbell) are scheduled to participate. I know nothing about this group, but it sounds like something of importance to anyone interested in this area. Indeed, the first item listed on the list of panels is the very subject I have been exploring recently--finding the frequency of organs to resonate them back to health.

Here is a list of the panels and workshops to be presented:

PANELS AND WORKSHOPS

Panels:

Cutting Edge Sound Healing Technologies

There are a wide range of new powerful technologies that are being developed for healing and personal transformation. This new power brings with it an extraordinary amount of responsibility. Some of the techniques that will be discussed these techniques include:

1) Finding the frequency of organs in order to resonate them into healthy functioning, as well as using frequency to disintegrate diseases.
2) Discovering the root frequency and harmonic structure of a person in order to bring them into balance.
3) Using Voice Analysis techniques to acquire information about a person's physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. Then using this information to identify frequencies that can facilitate the alleviation of an illness or promote optimal functioning.
4) Theme Park Entertainment - Using synchronized sound, light, and Virtual Reality experiences to create a new generation of transformational entertainment.
5) Environmental Restoration - Using sonic technology to clean up air and water on Earth.
6) Potentially Dangerous Applications - The use of sound for military purposes and to affect weather patterns.

What else does the future hold?

Bringing Sound into the Medical Field

It is time to bring the ancient and current power of sound into the mainstream. Just about everybody in the field of PsychoAcoustics and Sound Healing has had a glimpse of how powerful sound really is. Sound is finally reaching the threshold of mainstream acceptance due to the successful clinical applications and research of many sonic pioneers. As teachers, healers, and scientists we are all aware that the medical establishment, in its current form, can not provide a comprehensive solution to the world's struggling healthcare needs. We believe that innovations in alternative medicine, particularly in the field of psychoacoustics, can help bridge the gap between ancient wisdom and modern technology to create practical and sustainable solutions that provide highly effective treatment at a fraction of the cost. With a little effort, these solutions can be integrated into mainstream awareness, and eventually create comprehensive lifestyle solutions that will raise the consciousness of our entire planet. Now, how can we best facilitate this process by building bridges between the Sound Healing field and the Medical Industry?

Raising the Consciousness of the Planet through Sound

In this time of accelerated change on our planet, there couldn't't be a more important time to learn about how sound can be used as a tool for personal transformation and healing global destructive tendencies in order to bring the world community together.

Natural Sound Healing Instruments

Natural sound healing instruments are the most ancient and powerful tools for shifting vibration to a higher level. We will discuss the various applications of Sound Healing using the voice, crystal bowls, tuning forks, and many other natural sound healing instruments. We will also discuss the importance and power of intention in the healing environment.

Workshops:

In alignment with the theme of "Together through Sound", many of the workshops will be facilitated by a group of specialists in a particular area of PsychoAcoustics and Sound Healing. This approach will give the presenters an opportunity to interact and share their wisdom with each other, while providing the attendees with a broad perspective on the various subjects.

Sound and Medicine

It is important to understand the way that sound effects the various aspects of our physical and etheric bodies. This workshop will discuss various perspectives on how sound can be applied within the medical environment and discuss the importance of educating Spas, Alternative Health Centers, and Hospitals about the therapeutic uses of sound.

Sound and Psychotherapy

This workshop will discuss how sound can be used as an effective tool within the clinical and psychiatric environment. Can the use of sound decrease the need fprescriptionion medication and provide new alternatives for outmoded treatment interventions?

New Sound Technologies

Workshops that will explore some of the new technologies that are being used for healing, raising consciousness, and repairing our eco system.

PsychoAcoustic Music Production

This workshop will take a look at specific recording, mixing, effect and production techniques for maximizing the power of your recorded sound within tlistenerter.

Rhythm and Healing

This workshop will explore the power of rhythm to affect human biometric systems including heartbeat, brainwaves, breath, and more.

Sacred Geometry

Learn to understand the sacred geometric structure of the universe and how it relates to the structure of sound.

Natural Acoustic Sound Healing

A hands-on workshop that will allow you to feel the natural vibrations of voice, crystal bowls, tuning forks and other natural instruments.

Voice Analysis

The use of voice analysis as a diagnosis technique, and to ascertain the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being of a person.

Healing Music

Some of the top Healing Music producers in the field.

Sound and Intuition

There are many intuitives who can hear every part of your being as frequency and can give advice and make medical observations based on these frequencies.

Music Publishing

How to get your music out on the market.

Swami-G and Billy Collins

Recently, I received the following e-mail (from Swami-G) and today a friend sent me this poem by Billy Collins. Their perspectives seemed to have a great deal in common, though their conclusions were perhaps somewhat different...so I decided to post them together for purposes of comparison.

I have posted the e-mail from Swami-G as I received it, including the original spelling and odd line divisions which tend to occur on e-mail transmissions. The web sites which are mentioned are worth a look. In particular, the list of "symptoms" and of "causes" of kundalini offer important information for understanding this ever mysterious process.

I, of course, believe that the best possible guidance on this journey is from the inner guru, rather than an outer director. And I, personally, do not believe there is a "journey's end" as such. I look on Kundalini as a constantly unfolding process, and feel that "awakening" (the seeing into the reality of self as fiction) is merely the beginning of the ongoing voyage of discovery.

Nonetheless, I realize that some rely on a different mode and that often the stages and discoveries of the initiatory path are remarkably similar over various cultures and eras of time.

Here is the e-mail I received from Swami-G:

in
an esoteric christian order - Kundalini was awakened - completion took place
on the banks of the Ganges in 1999 at the age of 49)
here are my two websites - put together by sadhakas :

Path, Self-Realization and the Now

If people ask me what religion I am I say, “All and none.” I am that Unbound
Truth that runs like a thread through All religious persuasions.

There have been many Gurus, mentors and teachers along the way. Each in
their own way helped this seeker move forward, each lead me closer to the
core of Being.

Many aided in releasing the mind of delusion towards greater awareness. The
last great Guru, Sri Rajiv took me from the individualization of ego
identification to the implosion which leaves the awareness of the great
impersonal core of Being. When dissolving into the Impersonal Brahman or
core of Being (which is Absolute) it is not an experience per say, as
experience is of mind and form. The last takes you beyond mind and thought
into that great pregnant void beyond I AM, which is at the heart and center
and from which all creation stems.

As a seeker meditation was done throughout the day, in awareness insights
came, there was grasping at straws. I learned relative knowledge which I
thought was so spiritually advanced. Meditation deepened, Kundalini kept
pulling away at the supports. Finally my Compassionate Guru (Sri Rajiv
Misra) took the knife of discernment and started slicing and dicing - not a
pretty picture - but

his compassion was in giving what was needed and not what was wanted (for we
want the candy-coated strokes of tell me how great my spiritually advanced
understanding is). He told me, “Fool! You know NOTHING!”, and he was right.
I sputtered and choked and was mute for two days, but this threw me into a
deep self-enquiry that tore the foolishness of conceptualization away.

Sitting on the banks of the Ganges suddenly the last great
fear arose — terror — was it total annihilation or possession that was a
step away? Exhausted, with the acceptance that this seeker had done all that
it was possible to do, left only one option - to surrender within the
impending doom which had engulfed every cell with the terror of its demise.
In that moment beyond time, the world and all its belief~ God; ‘me’; the
nature of existence; the seeking; the clinging; desires; aversions —
shattered. Mind and its holdings were stripped bare, it died to the past and
all its plays of suffering self; the separate ‘me’ was at an end. Nothing
remaining to hold. Nothing remaining to be desired. Nothing remaining to
fight against. Death is no more. Past is no more. Future is no more. ‘Me’ is
no more. Only eternal life that One essence of fill potentiality IS.

You find that the essence, the seed of life is eternal, that you as
personality are a wisp in the wind. In fact in that moment, you do not
exist. It is a great humbling experience. All that exists is the formless
constant, that Perfect IS.

When the One or ‘0’ is entered into frilly there is no longer the seeking
for connection for it is the Reality and it is rested in completely. Yet you
cannot even say that there is the connection for there is at that point, no
duality that remains on any level.

The eyes continue to see diversity but they are not deluded by a mind of
division, there is simply that which IS. (One)

Pure Awareness remains, not logical linear thought, which builds stone upon
stone of constructed images, held together by the glue of mental ramblings
of past ‘if onlys’, and future ‘what ifs’. This cannot even be imagined
until it becomes your reality.

You enter the flow of life - Being simply Truth, Consciousness and Bliss,
clear of all past preconceived notions and illusions created by the forms’
experience. There is no longer a feeling of “I am this form” but rather, the
Universe is consciousness moving. There is no “I” separate from
consciousness. Only consciousness beyond the form remains - ever conscious
of the One and knowing the many to be only seeming aspects of the One. There
is no longer any concept of separation nor judging nor categorizing. It
becomes pure, undiluted experience beyond minds’ colorations.

It is spontaneity that remains, a spontaneity that isn’t caught up with the
worldly things, nor based on knee jerk reactions. There is no driving self
image. No stagnation of a me self. No doership, no one doing. What needs to
occur does, the body goes through the actions. There is simply Peace, not
one resting in peace, not one looking for peace, not one attempting to
create peace, it simply IS.

One is fully grounded and yet there is no attachment to actions - they flow,
they are momentary, emotions are momentary. When that moment is over there
is no residual fallout being clung to, to bring into fruition the bitterness
of suffering. A body is seen - yes, pain is felt, but it is not myself (- it
is pain belonging to the body which has no substance (empty in nature) and
not the Self This may only be directly Known and cannot be manufactured by
the logical mundane mind process).

How can one be fully human and yet look within and no longer find anything
that can be called a ‘me story’? It is a paradox but is quite natural..
.this cannot be explained or learned or given by any intellectual dialogue -
it can only become the Living Reality immersed in the Absolute Primal Purity
of IS and yet one is fully human. It is impossible to explain how this is,
it is just the fullness of life as it is that remains.

There is simply a seeing manifestation as it rises from that silence and
void into seeming patterns which rise and fall due to the Conscious movement
which is created by the mass mind - the grand illusive play called ‘Maya’.
Being at that point, beyond the illusions, you see it as just the
ever-expanding dream called ‘life’. There is no longer death nor life.. .for
you have ever been that which is beyond both these seeming aspects.

A Realized One lives fully in the moment, there is nowhere else to go and
why would there be a need to? Suffering is at an end no matter where one is
or what is going on in the external world, there is a center of Peace, that
~unmoving eye that has not one minute of bondage no matter what is raging
around it.

As the spirit moves so moves the emptiness of Being, Being as simply
simplicity that which you are at the core beyond the ego
self-identification.

in Realization, mind can be equated with a tool of the divisionary
experience - the mind can, and does, remain for some as nothing other than a
bit of flotsam that floats on the sea of consciousness yet does not binder
the purity of the sea or its vast nature ~f clarity.

Some will look and challenge (this unknown Reality) by saying who is
speaking? The ‘me’ (which others relate to) is likened to a wisp of
fragrance without solid moorings. ..aware of mind yet not contained by
mind.., it is neither one nor another.. .it is at once the whole of creation
and yet forever separate and distinct.. .it is something most wonderful and
yet it is totally natural...there is simply a flow and a dance that remains.

Love- Light - Great Peace & IS

And here is the poem by Billy Collins, which, to some extent, seems to reflect a similar point of view as to the unreality of the experienced world:

Final Words

I cannot leave you without saying this:
the past is nothing,
a nonmemory, a phantom,
a soundproof closet in which Johann Strauss
is composing another waltz no one can hear.

It is a fabrication, best forgotten,
a wellspring of sorrow
that waters a field of bitter vegetation.

Leave it behind.
Take your head out of your hands
and arise from the couch of melancholy
where the window-light falls against your face
and the sun rides across the autumn sky,
steely behind the bare trees,
glorious as the high strains of violins.

But forget Strauss.
And forget his younger brother,
the poor bastard who was killed in a fall
from a podium while conducting a symphony.

Forget the past,
forget the stunned audience on its feet,
the absurdity of their formal clothes
in the face of sudden death,
forget their collective gasp,
the murmur and huddle over the body,
the creaking of the lowered curtain.

Forget Strauss
with that encore look in his eye
and his tiresome industry:
more than five hundred finished compositions!
He even wrote a polka for his mother.
That alone is enough to make me flee the past,
evacuate its temples,
and walk alone under the stars
down these dark paths strewn with acorns,
feeling nothing but the crisp October air,
the swing of my arms
and the rhythms of my stepping--
a man of the present who has forgotten
every composer, every great battle,
just me,
a thin reed blowing in the night.

Ecstasy and the Heart: Channeled Wisdom

The following message, channeled by Tom Kenyon, famous sound healer, musician, teacher, and seer, resonates with me to near perfection. I am filled with delight to find a perspective which speaks directly to the path of ecstasy as a means of human and planetary evolution, something I have long believed in, but never found so wondrously expressed. Tom channels "Hathor," an ancient Egyptian goddess who speaks with profound wisdom and insight.

What Hathor is revealing to us is nothing less than the future of the race.

See www.tomkenyon.com for more revelations.

May all who read this discover more and more ecstasy pouring from their hearts into the universe, as an ever more coherent energy grid is brought into being.

Ecstasy and the Heart
Hathor Channeling
4/18/05

We wish to speak with you in this section concerning the generation of ecstasy through focusing on the heart. We do not speak of the heart chakra in this instance, but rather we refer to the physical heart, the heart muscle itself.

This technique involves your focus, or attention, joined with the emotion of gratitude, or appreciation—which ever you prefer to use.

As soon as you focus your attention on the heart, you may notice a flow of subtle energy.

From our perspective, your focus of attention operates much like the central point of an energy vortex. This is especially true within your physical body and the field surrounding your body—your energy field—what the ancients called the aura.

Your ability to create a focus of attention is not just a cerebral, or brain, activity. It is an activity on many levels of consciousness. Wherever you place you attention within your body, or within the energy field of your body, there is an immediate flow of subtle energy to that point, or area, which has an enlivening effect upon the cells of your body, and/or the luminous light fibers that comprise your energy body.

Your focus, indeed, creates a warping effect at the subatomic levels, what you might call quantum field effects. These field-effects create distinct flows of energy, geometry and harmonics within you.

To alter the quantum field through the power of your focus is an important ability we urge you to master. Its applications are numerous, the cultivation of ecstasy being just one of them.

In this method, you use this ability to hold focus or attention, joined with the emotion of appreciation or gratitude. These two emotions have a coherent effect upon your energy field and upon the rhythmic magnetic emanations of your physical heart. This combination of focus and coherent emotion can be used to generate high states of ecstasy.

As we have said previously, the generation of ecstatic states of consciousness is an important evolutionary catalyst. We strongly suggest that you learn to create states of ecstasy throughout your day.

We realize that, for many of you, your daily life may not be conducive to the cultivation of such states, but we urge you to find times throughout your day where you can practice attaining these states for at least a few minutes at a time. A little bit of time spent in ecstasy is better than no time at all.

This practice will set up a harmonic or a relationship with the Earth, as a conscious living being, and with the harmonic waves of catalytic evolution that are flowing through your galaxy.

In this technique you focus your attention on the physical heart. As you focus your attention on this area, you generate the feeling of appreciation or gratitude. It is not the thought of appreciation or gratitude—but rather the emotion. In this method, thought will not activate the subtle energies needed to generate ecstasy—only feeling is capable of activating the energy vortices within you.

As you focus on the physical heart and generate the feeling of appreciation, or gratitude, a waveform of energy begins to flow throughout the body—carried by the magnetic fields of the heart, which emanate outward from the physical heart to encompass your entire body. As the flow of energy begins throughout the body, there is a spontaneous arising of ecstasy—cellular ecstasy.

Experiment with this technique. Sense what happens in your body as you focus upon your heart and generate these feelings of appreciation and gratitude. Physically feel what seems to be happening at the cellular level as the one trillion (or so) cells of your body receive this coherent energy of gratitude or appreciation.

Once you have established the ability to create ecstasy as described above, and once you are able to generate ecstasy whenever you desire it—at will—begin to experiment with your energy field—what some call the subtle energy body.

In working with this method your attention is, again, on the heart, generating feelings of appreciation and gratitude. And as you sense ecstasy beginning to arise in your body, you shift your attention to the field around your body. This field of energy looks very much like a luminous egg when viewed clairvoyantly. The wide part of this luminous egg shape is up around the shoulders and the more narrow part is around the feet. There is a central line or axis that runs through the center of this field, and it happens to also run through the center of your physical body—through the top of the head and down through the perineum. This line is the central axis of the magnetic field that comprises the subtle energy body. This body, or field, extends above the head and below the feet a few inches, to a several feet, or even yards. In certain highly charged energy states, the axis and subtle energy body can expand much farther than that.

By shifting your attention to this central axis and to the field surrounding your body, you allow the ecstasy to move out from the physical body into the field. This is very positive and creates powerful harmonic patterns that bring you into resonance with the waveforms of accelerated evolution that are flowing through your galaxy.

Do not underestimate the powers of this technique. Though it is very simple, it is profound and effective. It will bring you into a higher state of resonance and vibration. And this is, from our perspective, crucial in order to pass through the energetic portals and transformational energies that your Earth is now experiencing and will continue to experience.

There are things we would like to say to you about your nature and your destiny, but they would, most likely, not be understood by you unless you are, at the very least, in a state of ecstasy.

This is because the reference point for consciousness is established not only by belief, but also by one’s emotional harmonics. And without you being in a state of ecstasy, it would be like trying to describe a sunrise to a blind person who does not have the ability to directly perceive what you are talking about. To such a person it would be a make-believe world you are describing. But if suddenly this person could see, he or she could sense the sun directly and verify that your description of the world was accurate. And what was once deemed to be in the realm of myth will now be seen as real.

And so we leave you in this moment with what may seem like a myth, but which we hold as self-evident. You are creator beings in the midst of creating your future and the future of generations yet to come. You hold within your heart a key to the Mystery of Mysteries. And the threshold, the opening into this mystery is through your capacity to enter ecstasy. Be bold and find your path, your way of living upward into this elevated state of being. Do know, however, the ecstasy is not the end of the way. It is simply the beginning.

Try the method we have laid out for you here. Experiment with the methods we have given earlier and that we will give in the near future. Enter ecstasy whenever you can. Know that when do so, you enter into communion with all the elevated beings and masters who have served and who are serving humanity. Know that when you do so, you enter into communion with your Self.

In joy and laughter.

Subtle Energy, Subtle Feelings

"Worldly power means nothing.

Only the unsayable jeweled inner life matters."

Rumi

"The trick is to hear the music that is the body.
If we can do so, the meaning of the body can be transformed.
It becomes not a blind, silent, doomed machine
but a glorious composition,
a part of God's oeuvre... 'The Great Tone.'"

Meaning and Medicine, Larry Dossey, M.D.

When Kundalini first erupts, it is frequently like a huge bonfire, a volcano pouring out flame and lava, a great Beethoven Symphony or perhaps a marching band with heavy drum beats and loud cymbals clashing. Energies and excitement run high. One can perform at a higher rate than was previously imagined. The inner feelings--of joy, of strength, of pleasure of many kinds--rise to a crescendo. One enters a state of "glory" in which many revelations may occur.

With the passage of time, these intensities abate. One becomes more settled, more grounded, more capable of dealing with the new state with less frenzy, less sense of being totally possessed by a foreign (and fantastic) force.

Yet, having written this, I realize that these assertions are not entirely true. As the process unfolds, it changes constantly, and each new stage, each arriving sensation is in itself a kind of miracle.

Now, Kundalini can take many shapes, follow many paths. Some seek to utilize its power to develop physical strength, to achieve prowess in the martial arts. These "warriors" learn to defeat the opponent with the special energies they have mastered, or perhaps to smash wooden bricks through this near miraculous ability. The feats of the ancients are famous in various ways, including those of certain early day Tibetan monks who could (through the power known as tummo, likely a form of Kundalini heat) dry "sheets" with the warmth of their own bodies, this after they had been soaking in frigid streams.

Some utilize these sacred powers for healing others. Energy healers of many kinds, including shamans ancient and modern, seem to rely on Kundalini for their healing abilities.

Another gift of Kundalini, for those less athletically inclined, is the path of bliss (rapture, ecstasy). St. Teresa of Avila offered arresting descriptions of her own "raptures," which many later critics feel were manifestations of the Kundalini energy. The same holds true for St. John of the Cross, who is famed for his "love poems to God," which often carry a distinct erotic tone. For many, the appearance (and awakening)) of the Kundalini energies offers a profound inner path to "god," (the goddess, the divine, the unutterable, the unknowable.) We cannot define "god" but we can experience "him" (her, it, that, whatever it is called.)
As that wise one said, "Kundalini is god moving through your body." And that is exactly what it may feel like, for those attuned to path of sacred union.

And some utilize the Kundalini energies to enhance sexual pleasure--the early tantrics (and some later ones) were famous for their rituals dedicated to the arousal of Kundalini through sexual ceremonies.

And some feel they are chosen by the "lover within," who, in a very real, indeed quite literal sense, enters their bodies as sensuous currents of rapture or joy. Often the "bliss flows" are quite intense in the beginning, and can bring a sense of actual arousal. (As one person remaked, Kundalini is "like sex only different.") As time passes, indeed, as the years pass, the sensations become quieter, more "subtle" (less intense), but they may remain just as filled with bliss and joy, though of a more delicate nature. After many years, the sensations awakened may seem more like "light penetrating the body," but this, too, can bring one to a state of exquisite rapture. Just as certain tones are outside our usual range of hearing, and certain colors beyond our familiar vision, these vibrations seem to pass beyond what the human subject normally experiences. The vibrations seem to grow hligher and higher (and perhaps they are.) The sensations are now more subtle, more refined, but they still bring indescribable inner bliss.

Are such sensations still "Kundalini"? If not, what might they be? They are the product of an original energetic awakening which, like the initiate herself, has become progressively quieter, softer, more delicate, yet is still filled with the original nectar or bliss, which is itself a gift of grace.

Perhaps the answer is that the body (the subtle body, that is) simply learns to vibrate with a fuller range of receptivity, as if it now could see a wider spectrum of color or hear a greater range of sound (and in fact some inititates do develop precisely such capacities.)

We never know why certain "blessings" are granted to ourselves or others. Some practice for years, and never know the bliss. Some tumble into bliss at the opening moment, and never fully return to their former "blissless" states.

Whatever the explanation, the constant transmutations and permutations of the "visitations," (the times spent in the full embrace of Kundalini bliss)keeps life a constant fascination. No experience is ever repeated exactly. No moment is final, no process of opening signifies "completion."

Vibrational Healing

Last night, I watched a video on healing with "sound," here equated with vibration itself. The speaker, Dr. Peter Guy Manners from the U.K., explained that each organ or part of the body has its own vibratory signature, and when this is not "in sync" with the overall system, illness results. In England, healing through restoration of the correct frequency is apparently growing into a widely accepted modality. It is achieved through the use of a small machine, which uses a detailed computerized data bank to ascertain the needed frequency which is then "restored" to recover the health of the affected part. There are also various devices used in the U.S. for a similar purpose.

Along with this presentation (an interview by Jonathan Goldman of Dr. Manners), there was a segment on "cymatics," the use of vibration to change the pattern or shape of various materials. This work, discovered by Dr. Hans Jenny (now deceased) has many implications for the nature of matter, the use of vibration to structure the universe, the nature of human and other molecules, and such. Indeed, vibration is the foundation of the universe itself--a perspective echoed by the Bible in the famous passage "in the beginning was the word" (that is, sound or vibration) as well as in ancient Shaivite literature (see the Spanda Karika, which I have discussed before) which says that the "divine tremoring" accounts for the genesis and continuing manifestation of the universe and all it contains.

As you consider these various theories, there seems to be a real connection among the many healing modalities which use various forms of energy to achieve health. One thinks immediately of acupuncture, acupressure, t'ai chi, chi gong, sound healing, movement, dance and music, intentional "energy healing" from a practitioner (including shamans),yoga, reiki, kum nye and other approaches which rely on energy and/or vibration for their effectiveness.

In the midst of all of these techniques, Kundalini emerges as a significant source. When Kundalini comes forth in all its full glory, the body (often) receives an electric awakening, as the chakras and other centers open and energy flows freely where it was blocked before. Even in the course of slow, steady opening of the chakras (the recommended and generally safer method), health may be significantly increased, since the circuits (called nadis in the ancient texts) may be opened to the flow of the universal life force. Sometimes these and similar energies are called Kundalini, sometimes chi, sometimes prana (for breath itself can also work in this way.) All (I beieve) serve to raise the vibratory rate of the entire system, and healing may result throughout (though if the flow is blocked, pain or illness may result--this is the great danger, and a major reason why these techniques have been so carefull guarded through the centuries).

Persons with recently awakened Kundalini (a time when the energies are often quite strong) are said, in ancient texts, to be irresistable. Likewise, "all the world loves a lover", who often has a "special glow" as all the energies are awakened and flow freely within (my notion, though I have no proof).

Seen from this perspective, all is vibration, all is energy. Vibration creates the world and keeps it going. As modern physics and ancient wisdom agree, everything is in motion, everything is energy, everything is in a state of constant pulsation. To awaken to Kundalini is to come into awareness of the divine interplay on all levels, for now you can feel on a deeper, more sensitive level both the bliss and the pain of your being.

Healing Sound

I met Janet Ryan at a workshop recently. On Thursday, she drove over to my apartment, and brought her incredible instruments--her Tibetan bowls and bells along with her inner wisdom and outer voice. Together we explored the magic of sound, the wondrous vibrations which opened our bodies to the flow of divine love.

We also did toning, something I had known about for years but never really practiced. Toning involves simply releasing inner feelings as sound--any sound, good or bad, soft or loud, sweet or raucous. It gives expression (finally) to what has been repressed and suppressed within, often for years. You simply "let it all out," and then experience relief and gratitude as the body relaxes into joy.

For me, one of the most important results was that I felt the incredible tension I generally carry around my eyes release in a totally unexpected way. Even this morning, when I woke, I did not have the usual tension between my eyes. Now, that is not to say that I actually was seeing better, but at least, for the time, I was free of strain.

There is always more to learn. There are always new paths to explore. The body and mind are indeed connected, as all of us know mentally, but which we have to be reminded of again and again, in various ways, in order to keep in touch with who we truly are.

Ojibway Prayer

Ojibway Prayer

Anonymous (19th Century)

Grandfather,
Look at our brokenness.
We know that in all creation
Only the human family
Has strayed from the Sacred Way.
We know that we are the ones
Who are divided
And we are the ones
Who must come back together
To walk the Sacred Way.
Grandfather,
Sacred One,
Teach us love, compassion, and honor
That we may heal the earth
And heal each other.

Announcement from Andrew Harvey

Dear Friends,

My last weekend at Miriam's Well with 35 Sacred Activists was one of the most exciting of my life. Due to demand, another weekend has been scheduled for November 10-12. There are some places still remaining and it would be so wonderful if they could be filled, as this work is, as I believe, of the utmost importance.

Please look at Miriam's Wells website and support their ongoing adventure in Sacred Activism.

May I request of you to send the attached article to your email list, if you feel they would be inspired by it. Thank you so very much!

The New Children

Doris Lessing, at the end of "The Four Gated City," projects a future in which children with unusual powers (E. S. P. and other gifts) will appear. They will communicate with each other in ways the adults cannot understand.

Today, there are many reports of children born with a strange maturity, wise beyond their years. Some have called these "indigo children," (their assigned color on a psychological typing chart); others are called "crystal children." (I have given references to both of these in earlier posts.)

I have met a few of these children and they are indeed remarkable. One friend reports that his four-year-old observed, "I think god is a big ball of love. And the churches don't really work."

Recently, when I was discussing this notion of indigos and other unusual children with a gifted intuitive, she confided that she has been seeing a special energy emanate from the upper chest of these youngsters. She said it was not a new chakra, just a new energy center located between the heart and throat chakras. I found the idea quite intriguing.

This morning as I was reflecting on all of this, it occurred to me that the new energy center could be the thymus gland, which is located precisely here and which in the past was said to have no known use in the body. (I believe this view has now been corrected, but I am not sure of this.) I wondered if this gland were not being activated in order to produce an advanced version of the human species.

Then, just now, I was reading the descriptive pamphlet for Jonathan Goldman's CD album "Holy Harmony," in which he states:

"In various specialized workshops, I had groups chant "YHSVH". The effect was extraordinary. In addition to the ability to produce Divine frequencies and thus cleanse imbalanced and negative energies, it also seemed to specifically activate the thymus gland's related energy center and anchor--what I call the "Christ Energy"--into the body. This energy is able to do a vibrational recalibration of our cellular structure and DNA."

I found this a striking synchronicity, and a fascinating idea. Seemingly the thymus has uses the old scholars never dreamed of. And (good news for all), it can apparently be activated in adults as well as the young.
