Habiba Kabir--A Perfect Humanity

The following piece comes from a friend of mine, a devout Sufi who as a calipha (female caliph) heads one of the local Sufi orders.

Bismi-Llah r’Rahman r’Rahim – We begin in the name of the Beloved, Who is Mercy and Compassion

By Habiba Kabir

Beloved Servants on the Path of Love:

Years ago, when I was living in Missouri, my beloved Shaykh Nur sent a handwritten copy of ‘Perfect Humanity: the New Burning Bush’ to me and I felt very upset by it.  I wasn’t clear why I felt this and so gave it to my son, Ashki, to read. He read it and said, “It isn’t that it is wrong.  It is just not time for it yet.”  I let my confusion go recognizing that this was the shock of the Lore of Certainty, hearing about something you have never seen.  Time passed and as Mahmud (Habiba's husband) and I reread this gem, it all felt closer, like now we could catch a glimpse of it, perhaps with the Eye of Certainty, actually beginning to have something in sight.  Now it is time for the Perfect Humanity to come forth.  We are being consumed by the Truth of Certainty, actually entering the thing and being consumed by it . The Perfect Humanity is coming in amazing ways.  (3 stages of Certainty from The Book of Certainty by Martin Lings –inspired by teaching from ibn Arabi)

Wish to share with you a vision that came a week ago which is coming clearer, day by day.  I was in the process of receiving a healing session when this vision occurred.  Suddenly realized that I was lying there in wordless wonder and feeling a blessed connection to creation.  From that place, I prayerfully asked what this body needs for healing.  Here is what came:

I saw each cell in my body as having lived in separation from every other cell, contracted and just trying to survive alone.  I heard, “Let each dear one be honored.  Stop holding them apart!”  As any sense of personal control was released, from the heart of each cell Light arose, radiating and being received and given by every other cell in my body.  Each cell rose up to take its place in union with the whole body.  No longer was there separation, but beautiful ones who have their place and work within the whole of this organism.  Such gratitude arose within my heart for the privilege of being held/enfolded in this body.  I saw that each cell is not just given by the Beloved, created by the Beloved, but truly is the Face of the Beloved.

From this place there could be no more “I” in control, trying to, however graciously, push the cells and organs, muscle and tissue of my body to conform to any good idea of what this body “should” be.  There was only an “eye” looking and deeply listening to the voices of my internal form, hearing the wisdom of each cell and realizing that each organ knows best what is needed by that part of the body.

There was only this “eye” looking and deeply listening with great compassion for the brokenness within caused by a belief in separation.   It was recognized that the inner work to be done now is to hold the space for the healing necessary to bring each cell into its’ full expression of Love, Light and Wholeness/Holiness.   It is time to listen to the stories, to bring every part of the being out of the ‘shadow’ and into the Light.

I am asking these questions now on the inner planes:  How to keep from falling back into the old patterns?  How to support the beauty of each individual part? How to listen deeply enough to hear what is needed in each moment?  How to lean into or track the future unfolding of this one that I am, to allow the embodied expression of the purpose that I was sent here to fulfill? I am asking myself what supports this connection, this inner unity, this healing?  What Lights me up?

Imagine my surprise and delight this morning as Kabir and I were reading aloud to each other for the ‘hundredth’ time, ‘Perfect Humanity, the New Burning Bush’ and came across this quote from our beloved Shaykh Nur, “With the joyous ease of Paradise, this universal Islam abides in the very cells of the human body, transforming secretly with its pure affirmation and expansion the molecular structure of everything that exists, rejecting and freeing itself from everything negative, mean or base.  This is the age of radical renewal, not mere amending but total transformation. “ From Atom from the Sun of Knowledge, p 355

I am required now to release myself from all belief systems that encourage separation and judge differences.  That way of walking supports the old paradigm.  I am required now to align myself fully with the guidance that is streaming forth in this moment and then in the next and the next.  I am required to support, in those within me and around me, the blossoming of the Beauty of their being.  I have to remember that there is help available now, that the veils are thin, that the Evliya are accessible, the ancestors are ready to help, the future beings are urging us forward, the angelic realm is reaching out, nature and her realms are offering support.  I only have to call and to reach out for it.  I am immersed in gratitude to the Creator for the awesome nature of Creation.

And I am seeing that this inner truth of the new Paradigm is true on all levels, that bodies exist that are bigger, like the body of humanity, like gender bodies, like the body of each race, each religion, and like this Sufi Order.  And smaller, like organs and body systems, like the structure of atoms.  And I am seeing that the Truth is the same on all levels.  Our species is moving into the New Humanity, remembering our unity with all that is.  It does not matter what name we call it by, Christ Consciousness, Buddha Nature, Atman, niranjana, Insan Kamil, or any other name.   It is all the same.  Listen deeply; hold the space for healing, no separation, no judgment.  Hold it all in the unlimited Heart of the Beloved, or whatever name you use for the Sacred One. Open hearted union.  La Ilaha illallah!  There is only the Beloved, total mercy and compassion to all without exception.

More on Hacking problem

Now I have discovered that the "hacking" problem is more serious than I realized.  "They" wiped out my ability to send or receive e-mail, and also erased my contact list.  Thus I have no easy way to let folks know what is going on via a mass contact mailing.

So--nothing to do but set up another e-mail account and start over.  In the meantime, I am without any e-mail access, but hope to get the new one started soon.

I realized too late that I had recently answered a "Phishing" e-mail which threatened to close my yahoo account if I did not supply certain information.  I supplied that information and the result was that I lost my account.  I'll know better next time!

When I get my new e-mail set up, I'll post it on this blogsite for all to see.  In the meantime, apologies if you write to me and do not receive an answer.

Someone has hacked my contact list, so you may be getting weird e-mails supposedly from me.  The one this morning claimed that I was stranded in London (I'm not) and asked you to send me a big sum of money (will accept all donations, however--just kidding.)
I guess this experience is the price of living in the cyber world of the 21st century.  Hope it does not affect anyone else!
I had my hearing checked today and discovered that I need a hearing aid--at rather enormous cost--it still seems strange to me that Medicare pays for all sorts of things including "male enhancement" or something of that sort, and won't pay for basic necessities such as being able to hear.  Oh, well, there are other things to worry about.
Let us enjoy our good times together and accept the joys that come our way!
Blessings to all,

Wings, poem by Dorothy

When I was younger,
say fifteen
or twenty,
I used to feel something
right between my shoulder
Oh, I would think,
that is my wings
trying to come out
and reclaim
all we once were.

As I grew older,
that feeling went away,
and I felt other things—
joy, sorrow, the expectation
that life would, somehow,
get better soon.

I went trudging ahead
and sometimes it did,
and sometimes it didn’t,
but mostly it brought
lovely surprises
that I had no notion
could exist.

Do you ever feel this way,
as if your wings
were right there
just below the surface,
ready to burst forth
and let you fly,
carry you away
to that fairy tale
where the skies
are always blue,
the water clear and lovely
as it cascades
over the rocks?

Poem by Wendell Berry

A Spiritual Journey
By Wendell Berry
(1934 - )

And the world cannot be discovered by a journey of miles,
no matter how long,
but only by a spiritual journey,
a journey of one inch,
very arduous and humbling and joyful,
by which we arrive at the ground at our feet,
and learn to be at home.

Judith Stone, Hanging Prayer Flags

Hanging Bhutanese Prayer Flags at Yotongla Pass 3300 meters

The clouds are dropping
down below the mountains.
We are still above, but descending
with them from the higher pass.
The wind has carried these clouds
to make a way for us with prayers
blown from its lapping mouth.
Clouds spilling like a waterfall
moving from the higher places
back to this place, where a Bengal tiger
has killed a cow herder in search
of his bull. We live at the pleasure
of such wild forces, even as we clothe
these mountains and the mountains beyond
and even down to the seas with prayer.

Rumi--the True Definition

Suppose you know the definitions of all substances
and their derivatives,
what good is this to you?
Know the true definition of yourself.
That is indispensable.
Then, when you know your own definition, flee from it,
that you may attain to the One who cannot be defined,
O sifter of the dust.

- Rumi, version by Camille and Kabir Helminski, from Rumi: Jewels of Remembrance

NOTE:  A well known Zen saying is that it is impossible to define God, because every definition you think of will be incorrect:  "not that, not that".  God is what is left when all  the "definitions" have been abandoned--God has no real form or name, and cannot be defined.  The "seeker" who seeks such definitions is as lost as someone who "sifts dust" looking for meaning.

We must "flee" our own definition (sense of self, ego) in order to achieve mystic annihilation into the one true source.  This is final surrender.

Poem by Antonio Machado

Last night, as I was sleeping
By Antonio Machado
(1875 - 1939)
English version by Ivan M. Granger

Last night, as I was sleeping,
I dreamt blessed vision!
that a fountain flowed
here in my heart.
I said: Why, O water, have you come
along this secret waterway,
spring of new life,
which I have never tasted?

Last night, as I was sleeping,
I dreamt blessed vision!
that I had a beehive
here in my heart;
and the golden bees
were making
from all my old sorrows
white wax and sweet honey.

Last night, as I was sleeping,
I dreamt blessed vision!
a blazing sun shone
here in my heart.
It was blazing because it gave heat
from a red home,
and it was sun because it gave light
and because it made me weep.

Last night, as I was sleeping,
I dreamt blessed vision!
that it was God I had
here in my heart.

NOTE:  When we think of Kundalini, we remember that above all it opens the heart to love and tender feelings.  We feel closer to the divine reality than ever before (in Kundalini's best expression), for we are indeed fully opened, fully vulnerable, fully blessed.
Thus Kundalini is not merely a delightful sensation, it is a means of access to a sacred realm that we can only guess at in other contexts.

Important internet goddess workshop

Here is an announcement of what promises to be a very important internet workshop for everyone, especially women who seek to embody the divine energies of the goddess, and particular those who have experienced the Kundalini energies as part of their awakening process.  I have recently met Aditi Devi and was impressed by her presence and her wisdom.  I recommend this highly.  Although Kali is often represented in her destructive aspect, this workshop will focus on her nurturant, loving aspect.

The Yogini's Womb

Ten Autumn Nights with Devi
An Online Puja to Celebrate Navaratri
in the Old Tantric Kali Kula style

Aditi Devi, Ph.D.

Navaratri is a bi-annual celebration of the Mother Goddess in India and Nepal. While the spring Navaratri is sweet and tender like the young shoots of rice rising in the fields, the autumnal Navaratri is a riot of abundance, color, and heart melting devotion to the Hindu Goddess in Her forms as Saraswati, Lakshmi, and Kali-Durga. This is the festival for Shakti, in all Her manifestations, par excellence. In most of South Asia, regular life comes to a halt for close to a month as people travel to their natal homes, prepare, celebrate, clean up, and return to their daily life. It is a time of deep connection with family, rich gift giving, shrine building, community celebration, and a full-bodied love affair with Devi, the Great Goddess through the mythic structure of Durga's defeat of the Buffalo Demon. This online puja is devoted to the mysteries of Navaratri in the Kali Kula from eastern India and Nepal.

Join us! We begin this online puja on the auspicious dark moon preceding Navaratri in October. We come together in sacred circle to make offerings and prayers to Kali in Her expression as all forms of Shakti and the renewal of the cosmos. As the centerpoint of our puja, we explore the underlying themes and practices of Navaratri from the perspective of the Kali Kula in eastern India and Nepal. We will share in a rich wealth of material so that you can celebrate Navaratri in your own home, at your own shrine, or in your heart-body in your life as a wandering yogini or yogin. We will explore some of the myths around Navaratri, learn to make and care for a living Navaratri altar, as well as some small prayers, chants, and mantras to keep us company on the path.

What you will receive
~ One live group telephone call led by Aditi Devi. The call will last up to 2.5 hours
~ Recording of the call to download and listen to later, should you be unable to attend the live call
~ Membership in a private online community to connect with others in this Navaratri Puja
~ At minimum, you will receive five emails from Aditi Devi noting the different portions of Navaratri, including an introductory and closing email at the end of Navaratri. ~ Depth teachings on Navaratri from the perspective of the Kali Kula, focusing on Mother Kali
~ For those in the Boulder area, we will have a special Navaratri celebration during our regular Kali Puja and Kirtan, on Saturday, October 20, 7:30pm. All are welcome, whether you are undertaking for the online puja or not.

About Aditi Devi

Aditi Devi began the study and practice of South Asia Tantric traditions more than 20 years ago. As an initiated yogini, pujarini (ritualist, priestess), and lineage holder, she has lived and practiced her sadhana with adepts in Nepal, India, and Tibet. Aditi Devi's practice, teaching, research and writing focus on the embodiment of the divine feminine in the Shakta Tantric traditions of India and Nepal. She earned a Ph.D. in Anthropology and was a Fulbright scholar and college professor.

Aditi Devi is authorized to teach what are called the Kali Practices which focus on the reverence of women as embodiments of the divine and awakening in the body, in deep relationality. These practices have their fullest expression in Assam, at the Temple of the Tantric Goddess Kamakhya, a yoni Goddess who is revered throughout South Asia (and indeed the world) which is one of her spiritual homes and practice seats.

After several years of living in a remote contemplative community, Aditi has taken to the wandering life again, bringing her offerings to yoga retreats, teacher training courses, festivals, godowns, and wherever yoginis and yogins gather. She recently returned from pilgrimage in India where she followed the trail of fierce desire, visiting several remote Yogini Temples.

Now that I am Drowned

I spent my life
looking for water.

Then I fell backwards
into the sea.

The waves received me.

Now that I am drowned,
I have become
whatever it was
I was looking for.
