Peacock Eyes (poem)
Peacock Eyes
Imagine!
The eyes of a peacock
looking out from a tree.
As if god,
the all seeing,
the one with a thousand
ways of viewing
at his command,
had become the flesh
of bark,
had become the tangible
organ, pupil, iris, all, everything arranged
in neat speckled rows
like fish laid out at market,
waiting for something,
us, the daylight, the evening sky,
the world,
to appear.
