By Stars in Alignment (Poem)
Falling
They said I was air and fire,
mixed.
But the truth is
I have been falling,
falling,
for so many years,
through air, through space,
single droplet caught
in the down rush
of water cascading down
the mountain,
arc of bird swooping
to the lake's shore.
All of this--
this descent,
this accelerated decline--
is part of the program,
set up for me
by stars in alignment,
planets opposed.
But what they forget
is that the
way down
is the way up,
light captured in matter,
to fall is to ascend.
