Poem by Lawrence Edwards (Kalidas)

I lit a candle
I lit a candle
          last night.
The bright flame and I
kept vigil through the depths of darkness.
Now the flame
and the one who lit it
appear to be the same, yet
          they were both gone
the moment they leapt into
          existence together,
replaced the next instant by another,
          then another, then another…..
The flame burns on
          in simple purity,
such a seductive illusion
          this continuity.
