The worst is over
Apparently the worst is over, at least in this part of the state. I am still safe and snug, but the overall damage left (in the area) from the raging waters is tremendous--hundreds still waiting for rescue, hundreds evacuated (as many in one day as in the same period in Katrina), thousands of homes and businesses destroyed or severely damaged, hundreds of bridges swept away, roads lost, farms all but wiped out--the list continues.
Several have died and the list is still growing.
It is estimated that the financial losses will run into many millions and may be as much as a billion dollars. The area involved so far is as large as the state of Connecticut. The swollen rivers are now headed to the eastern part of the state, and residents there are bracing for a major disaster. Some towns are still cut off completely from the rest of the world.
The sun is out and the next few days are predicted to be dry. How welcome this turn in
the weather will be.
