Michael Asks--Poem by Jan Elvee
Michael asks:
What would you do
if you were already
free?
Outside, high-flying birds
swoop in and out of formations,
perhaps playful, perhaps purposeful.
Suddenly I'm up there,
with them, held in an
invisible net of generosity.
What would I do if
I were already free?
I would laugh and laugh,
and the laughter would
hold it all, generously,
in an invisible net of
regret and revelation,
of resistance and relief,
and together we would
swoop in and out of
enigmatic formations,
giving thanks for
the blessing of being
a precious human
touched by the divine.
