"The Devoted" (poem by Dorothy)

The Devoted

They kept on going, no matter what.

The famous writer
who tied his pencil to his wrist,
so he could keep on writing
to the end.

The painter whose eyes went dim,
and so he painted what he saw,
blurred images that took us into
other realms, new ways of seeing,

The great composer
who kept on producing
his majestic works,
even when he could no longer hear.

The epic poet who was quite blind
but produced a masterpiece,
eternal work of art.

The poet, bent and hunched,
who gained fame in his time.

The painter who, even when his mind
was torn,
kept on painting
the images that came.

Study these.
Listen to the messages they send.
They tell us things
we need to know.
