The Savants
They are always talking
about this and that,
looking things up in
dictionaries and encyclopedias,
quoting the authorities.
They have theories
and philosophies
that get bandied about
and debated,
presented at meetings,
published in journals.
Sometimes they occupy
chairs in well known universities,
travel across the globe
to present their conclusions
at prestigious venues.
Have they ever known
the one true moment?
Have they ever suddenly
shuddered in delight?
Have they ever felt
the single kiss
that makes them alive?
