The Goddess––poem by Dorothy
The Goddess
She is the sweetness
that flows through all
and stirs the rocks and trees
to sing.
She is the nectar
of night falling rain,
the pause of the rose
waiting to open.
She is both male
and female,
Shiva and Shakti
locked in eternal embrace.
She is the dancer
in every bud and corpuscle,
the rhythm of the beating heart,
the roar of the waves
pounding the shore.
She is the wind
lifting the birds toward heaven,
the passageway of the
gliding creatures with fins.
She is the myriad stars
exploding and dissolving
as the many worlds come into being
and are swallowed into infinity again.
She has many names,
and each is a veil
masking her true nature.
It is she who embraces
all who call on her,
makes them cry out in joy
and forgetting when she arrives.
You will know her when she comes,
for she will wear your face.
