The Awakening––poem by Dorothy
The Awakening
You did not know
that your heart would open
in a spasm of joy.
That an angel
would piece your chest
with a lance of love.
How the world would shine
with light from within.
How each face you looked upon
would mirror
your own.
That the lover would return
day after day, year after year,
even when you were old
and there was no one left
to tell,
but you would
never hear her name,
embrace her form,
discover her source.
